[26 Mar 2007] Future of SwiftSwitch
Over the last few weeks or months even we've seen a number of changes to SwiftSwitch. Majority of these changes were in attempt to comply with Jagexs' 3rd party client author guidelines. We were fighting back at everything Jagex were throwing at us, till they delivered the final blow. World switching became against the rules. This was a big blow for SwiftSwitch because SwiftSwitch was built around being a world switcher.
With this we were forced to make a decision, to stop developing SwiftSwitch or to move away from world switching and focus on other features.
We have decided on the latter option. SwiftSwitch will undergo a major transformation in the months to come. Our new focus will be on transforming SwiftSwitch into a RuneScape Toolkit. The name SwiftSwitch won't stick around for the transformation, for obvious reasons. The SwiftSwitch team has decided on renaming SwiftSwitch to...SwiftKit.
SwiftKit will be a complete re-write, similar to what SwiftSwitch 2 was but this time there will be a lot more changes instead of just a code cleanup. With SwiftKit we hope to deliver new and improved features such as multi-lingual support, global themes with ability to create your own, controls around the Rs applet adjusting size according to your screen resolution, screenshot viewer with thumbnails and one click uploading. The SwiftSwitch IRC Client is also currently being rewritten by Sephiroth, which can be expected in SwiftKit. Those are just a few ideas that come to mind, without even mentioning the more toolkit like features we plan to implement.
SwiftKit will be the future, we hope that you stick with us and make the conversion when it arrives. For now we're working on getting the SwiftKit website up, which will have a frequently updated dev blog so you can monitor SwiftKits development all the way up to release. If you have any suggestions for SwiftKit now would be a great time to let us know by posting them here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on the forums.
Jagex have been screwing the SS crew into the ground recently, however all is not lost since Jagex have provided a built in world switcher that allows players to switch worlds without reloading the applet and of course the handy little mute button. SS has often gone under discrimination from paranoid individuals and the RS Community in general since Jagex doesn't give it a double thumbs up. SwiftSwitch turning into SwiftKit (apart from the name) was probably a very good move by the team, rather than constantly changing to match Jagex's god damned guidlines.
One thing that bugs me is that the world-switch-delay hasn't been removed yet...
Any thoughts
