It won't heat them up, it will make then feel like they're hot (altohugh I must admit, I have no idea HOW they're going to do that). Now, I'm sure that an inanimate object, such as a bomb, can't feel like it's being heated up?

As for frying a persons nerves, I believe that would be harming someone and it's already been stated that the technology is supposed to be harmless.

I'm sure if they find that it fries people's nerves then they'll re-think what they're doing and try a different approach.

If you read the article, the technology works with microwaves which penetrate less than a millimetre into someone's skin. They're not left on long, and so the skin doesnt heat up too much - no more than around 50 degrees C. 50 is enough to make someone uncomfortable or in pain, but not quite enough to cause damage.

Leave in on for more than 2 seconds, though, and it could heat up beyond 60 or 70, causing nerve endings to fry and the skin to damage. And considering the stupid mistakes the US army make all the time (like blowing up Iraqi schools that had just been built by US aid organisations), chances are they'd leave it on for a minute and make people combust.

Hit a bomb with this beam and even the slight heating could cause it to detonate. Nitroglycerine has a detonation temperature of between 50 and 60 degrees C - the very temperature this beam is designed to heat to - and many other explosives have low ignition temperatures, too.

Depending on how hot it is, i would presume it only needs a second or two and it'd feel like they was holding onto a flame or something.
