Some people think that fighting is rather, well quoting my school’s golf coach, “barbaric”. Well, I don’t find it barbaric. Yes, a bunch of gangbangers wrestling on the streets over some money is sort of barbaric. But how are sports that have strength, agility, tactics, and speed, most notably boxing, martial arts, etc. “barbaric”? Because they don’t have people running around after a ball?

Discuss.

I wouldn't call fighting a sport... unless you mean boxing/wrestling which is still  .

Hahahahaha. Tactics in boxing. Hhahahahahahaa.

What "tactics" would that be? Don't get hit in the face as much?

Kick boxing, boxing infact any form of boxing is just brutal, it's pointless it's watching two men smash each others face in. It's not entertaining, it's certainly not tactical. XD

Yeah, boxing i'm against, i think it's a morons game.

not all martial arts are barbaric, just the one's that come the US...

i take taekwondo and judo and i really don't find it barbaric at all. A lot of it is not really omg-kill-the-other-dude-now. A lot is practice and training to master your technique. and besides, Taekwondo and judo are olympic sports lol.

Hahahaha. I like you.

It isn't barbaric, it's a reversion to our instincts to survive.

I wasn't flaming you, just making a joke, i honestly don't believe you could kill me in one hit or at all really, don't really think anyone on these forums can manage to kill someone in one deadly blow with their hands. XD

My dad tought me how do kill someone with my hands if i really had to, im not going into any details, but fighting isn't really "barberic" but if you fight like chicks (not in a bad way chicks fight dirty and beat the crap out of each other) I suppose that could be considered "barberic" its all in your point of view

I agree. No matter how civilised humanity becomes, we will always have that instinctive part of us.

Yeah, like in the RuneScape bestiary (the one they haven't updated for months  ), it says about humans "whether they are civilised or not, is another matter" or something like that.

This goes back to the Stone Age, where people probably fought to be leader of a tribe or whatever. It's simply human nature.

But adding on to what some others are saying, martial arts does require a lot of practicing your techniques, and it's not omg-kill-the-other-guy-now either. It's like shooting free throws in your driveway to be able to make them in a basketball game. You have to practice to become better (clearly :P)
