Does your avatar influence how others perceive you?

I got thinking, I've mistaken a few of our members in the past for males or females, when they're the opposite, all because of their avatar.

No, I'm not asking you if you think I'm an elven guy, loves green, wears a pointy hat, and is on a never-ending quest to save my girlfriend. Although two of those are true, I'm more interested in whether you make assumptions on a person based on what their avatar looks like.

I don't make assumptions on people based on their avatar. That is like judging a book by its a cover. If I want to judge someone, then I will get to know them first before I assume anything about them.

i usually remember peoples avatars so i know that they've posted, saves reading their name

i dont judge people by the avatar though

Nah my avatar just usually matches my signature nowadays.

I used to put stuff I liked. For instance the Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children one I had was to show my favorite movie of all time. Thats about it

I meant would you think a person is female if they always had a female person as their avatar? If they always had brown avatars would you expect that to be their favourite colour?

It shows their personality in a nutshell (a lot of the time).

Some of the time it is truly just an avatar.

Yeah. Unless Waffles is a Ditto (The pokemon that turns into all the other ones), then I don't think thats him

I hope one of those people you mistook for a girl doesn't include me. Although if someone mistook me for a girl I wouldn't mind them imagining I look like the girl on my avatar.

I find it easier to identify people by their avatars.

And you guys probably think I'm a tech geek or a robot because of my avatar, when it's supposed to remind me of Shane.

It depends really. Unfortunately I do tend to identify people by their avatars, and they do influence me sometimes.
And sigs, in Brandt's case.
