In the last few years, scientists have managed to teleport nothing but single photons or atoms a distance of a less than a millimetre.

Now, using some wierd twists of quantum mechanics, some light, magnetism, and a horribly complicated concept called 'entanglement', they're getting closer to star-trek-style teleportation (Shane will be happy). They have teleportated a small lump of matter half a metre, and are aiming to take it further.

They plan to put it into further uses in computing, using 'Quantum Information', which not only allows immensely large amounts of data to be transmitted, but to be transmitted in a way that is absolutely secure.

Here's an article: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7005083884

never going to happen. as they said on that TNG "1 atom out of place and poof, you're gone"

if you were going to store all atoms in your body onto a 100 GB harddrive and you stacked them up, it would reach the center of our galaxy.

"We" also said we'd never land on the moon.
Yet we've done that. (Despite a few disbeliefs)

That would be amazing if it was real... Although I have a feeling it may never happen in a million years.

According to the laws of the world, alot of what we know is actually false. Once unquestionable things like 'the earth is flat' were soon capsized when columbus sailed around the world, we sent satiliettes into space and we landed on the moon. So if history is an accurate guide, alot of what we know about the world is wrong. And once impossible ideas like Teleportation will become possible as we uncover more about our world.

"We have found the key and lost the lock."

We once said flying was impossible. Yet we know scream through the air at Mac 5

The world was supposed to be flat.

The Earth actually orbits the sun.

The moon is not a lesser sun.

Space is not a void.

Atoms are actually data.

We weren't supposed to go to the moon.

Time travelling isn't impossible.

Quote:
"It is really about teleporting information from one site to another site. Quantum information is different from classical information in the sense that it cannot be measured. It has much higher information capacity and it cannot be eavesdropped on. The transmission of quantum information can be made unconditionally secure."

Atoms are data, therefore we can teleport, Quantum Physics shows us this.

Before you say I'm stark raving mad...

What are atoms?
Tiny solid balls..
Wait, it is just made up of electrons, orbiting the solid Nucleus
Then we find the Nucleus isn't solid, and made up of Quarks.
What are Quarks made of?
We are yet to find out

You then say, how come we can't walk through each other?
A barrier of electrons prevents the atoms fusing...

My 10 cents.

Of course, teleporting items that contaibn more than one atom is risky and unstable.

If you were to disassemble your body into separate atoms and "beam" yourself someplace, chances are that you would lose an atom or two in the process, so... therefore... you're screwed.

If someone made a time machine, then you can go back in time before he/she invented it, kill him/her, so therefore he/she never invented it, so you never went back in time so.....

It's not possible, it's a paradox.
