So, I decided to put Apple OS X (10.4.6 to be exact) on my Dell Inspiron 1100...everything turned out great! I originally had it on a 10 GB partition that would dual boot with Windows XP, but since I decided that Mac pwns XP, I just deleted the partitions and created one Mac partition...
It runs much cooler than it did with XP, but there are some minor problems with playing WMV files, as I have yet to find a converter...

Has anyone else done this?

Ok, get this...

I have a JVC camcorder which i took the pics with. Now, on windows, you need to install the JVC software, drivers, photoeditor software, all that, and then your camera might work. On mac, without any drivers or anything for the jvc, i just plug it in and it reads that it's a, sd card and i can just get my pics off. Easy as that.

How exactly did you put OSX on your laptop? Im thinking of doing it myself. I have a 12GB Ubuntu Linux partition at the moment that doesnt work, and I cant be bothered to fix it, to be honest. OSX would be a lot better.

Putting OS X on your non-mac machine is illegal unless:
You are an apple developer and have the developer version to play with
You already have a copy of OS X that you want to put on.

So we can't really allow an exact description as to how exactly to put it on your computer ;)

I have not used OS X personally but I know it's good as it's Unix based.

Well i was actually considering buying OSX, then putting it on there. But im sure it needs some kind of hack to be able to run properly.

Not everything unix-based is good, Shane. A lot is, but not everything. Linux and Unix machines often dont have the same compatibility as a windows machine; there are many things that wont work.

Im sure I can get something up on google about how to get OSX on a windows machine. Thanks anyway.

Haha, I remember seeing this video of a dell laptop blowing up at some japanese business meeting, I think it was the battery.

Anyways, everything seems fine, and I believe it actually runs cooler with Mac.

Mac has a program called bootcamp which lets you run windows on an Intel Mac. It's nothing out of the ordinary.
