Yesterday I got hit with a basketball around the tip of my thumb and I'm not sure if its broken or just jammed. I can bend it a little bit around that joint and it's still swollen but only hurts when I try to bend it. I did notice when it first happened before it was swollen it was bruised a little. Does anyone know if it's broken or jammed and what I should do?

I worked in a clinic and believe me, if it is broken..going to hospital won't help much. Just bandage it and maybe tape the fingertip around your index finger.

But.. if you see blood gathering under your nail, go to hospital so they can bleed it out.

How long does a jammed thumb take to heal and should I just put ice on it or what?

if u give it time to heal it wont, if ur like me and do it now.....yes it hurts alot, but it quits when it pops, just give it 2-3days on ice and it will be ok.

You don't want to put anything other than ice on it. IcyHot turns warm after a while and it'll cause the swelling to come back. Expect it to be sore for a week or two. Depends on how bad you hurt it.

So just put ice on it and not pop it and it will heal by itself in about 2 or 3 days (Say by monday or tuesday) and will just be bruised and hurt a bit for a week or so?

Yes, and don't try to "pop" it either. It puts air between your thumb joint and it'll cause it to heal badly. Don't do it even if it seems to feel good. Just wiggle it around now and then.

Why can't I move the top joint back or forward in my thumb?

When I jammed my finger, I just waited like a week, and it went away.

You could try that, or put ice on it.
