[Guide] Guide to members world scams (New scam added!)

This guide will explain common scams in MEMBERS worlds and the truths behind them.

The scams and their truths

-"Spending 1 Million!"
(The scammer will offer the cash for your items and as soon as you click accept, he/she will take out the money and accept it thinking that you won't realize. The scammer then runs off with your items without giving you the trade he/she promised.)

-"Party at my house! I have fencing/combat ring!"
(As soon as you enter the fencing/combat arena, the house owner (usually) will poison you and then kick you out of the house. Since you don't lose items when you die in house, thats why they kick you out so they take your items when you die outside portal. If this happens, use the portal to get into your own house as soon as possible so if you die, no items are lost.)

-"Party at my house! I have a dungeon!"
(Same as scam above, this scam acually happened to a friend of mine so I decided to put it in the guide.)

-"Buying d long 500k!"
(A dragon longsword (Or whatever item) is said to be sold at a unreasonably high price, as soon as you accept the trade, the scammer takes out their offer and accepts. Similar to the first one in the guide.)

-"Come to (website adress blocked by me) for any item you want!"
(First of all, that is against RuneScape rules to advertise websites, report immediately if possible. Also, their websites may install keyloggers, trojans, spy and ad ware onto your computer as soon as the website is visited or a download is made on that site.)

-Person 1: "Selling d long 90k!"
Person 2: "Buying d long 100k!"
(Especially if you merchant, you may come across this scam very often. When you first see the scam you may think of buying the dragon longsword for 90k and selling to the other person for 100k. As soon as you buy the 90k dragon longsword, the person buying for 100k runs away and/or logs off so you don't make a profit.)

What NOT to do if you are scammed

-Call the scammer "Scammer!" or "Noob!".
(That is not a good idea because first, it doesn't solve anything. Also, it is disrespectful and will make the scammer more mad and likely to scam. Lastly, the scammer may report you if they are really annoyed.)

-Go around scamming people.
(This is against the rules and you can just get yourself banned. Also, you are fighting fire with fire which isin't a good choice in this situation.)

-Go around and beg for "Free stuff plz!"
(This really doesn't solve much since people may think you are telling a lie just for free items. Also it just ends up with you getting a bad reputation and being called "Noob".

-Beg friends for items because you have been scammed.
(This will annoy your friends and maybe lose their trust in you. Be a good friend to them and they will to you. You can still tell them the story of the scam and maybe they will give you items.)

Scams may evolve overtime, so don't expect my guide to be 100% accurate. Scams may die out or new ones may exist due to Jagex's updates.

Nice Guide a got a new kind of scam here it is :wink:

-"The 2 player scam"

(Example)One guy is saying: "Selling Santa 30m", the other guy is saying: "buying santa 50m". So u think 'i should buy the santa for 13 and sell it for 20' . When u buy it for 30m, the 2nd player logs out or runs away :, (

Mostly used by 2 Friends :evil:

Also, another trick used with the "Spending x mil!" is they will use a 4 for an K, since of the cutoff in the graphic thats slight and a natural players instint to accept it will look almost the same as a K. They will accept and instead of getting 1000K they will get 10004

Here's one, I personally know this one b/c it happened to me:

PM:hey will u help me? I'll pay (some sort of amount of money)!
You: What?
Pm: Just bank everything but your (weapon/armor, it was a whip for me)
You: Ok
Pm: I'm making a pk video just start acting like I'm killing you
You: ok

Now I did this b/c it was free money all I had was 1 item and he was the one getting skulled.

Pm:ok, hold onto this so it looks like a drop
You: Ok

He trades you some junk then a few less junky items (for me it was 3 Mystic Tops)

I died and instead of dropping all but 2 Mystic tops and my Whip I dropped whip and kept the Mystic tops

Now that you know this I have a suggestion to teach those noob scammers (this only works if you can use Protect extra item). Make sure you have full prayer, an anti-poison potion, a good amount of lobs or better not too much b/c they will usually trade more then the valuable item hoping you won't even think about it. Also bring tele runes incase it gets bad. As soon as he/she gives you the items put protect extra item on and start dropping the low level items (it was ham stuff for me) or (this is alot easier) just teleport, if I had done this I would have gotten my whip and the 3 Mystic tops.

WARNING: This is where the tele runes come in handy!!! If he/she gives you 4 of a very valuable item teleport immeadiately b.c then you will just drop your item even with protect extra item, That way you will have the 4 valuable items, your valuable item, and the junk items. Put your priv chat on friends and put him/her on ignore

Its actually - drop all your items and press ALT + F4.

This cause your Web Browser Window to close, allowing the scammer to wait for your items to appear and takeing them. It takes 30 seconds for dropped items to appear to other players, but takes much more than 30 seconds for you to log back on and pick up your items...

Scammers may switch items:

Noted whip to a noted rope

Guthan spear to a leaf spear

Steel bars/nails/anything to iron

And many other tihngs

I like the leaf spear one lol. When your buying Full Guthans is it really nessecary to note it? You shouldn't ever buy stuff in notes when its just 1 item, cuz it most likely a scam... (notes are harder to see then real items)

*Heres a scam thhat happened to me. Been playing for 18 months and I still didn't realize it.*

You all probably know about luring, but if you don't... When someone pm's you, posts on forums saying they want to buy whatever your selling. They say meet in edge, then say they are lagging or something so meet them a bit east of edge, you have to go into wildy to get there, they teleblock/entangle and then own you.

Well mine was a bit different. I was alching in Edgeville and a lvl 40 person comes up to me. He asks if I will bring him to the Monastery. Ofcourse I know what it's like when high lvl's ignore low lvl's, so I thought 'sure, why not'. On our way to the monastery (through lvl 1 wildy), I get tangled, teleblocked, and owned by a mage. It all happened so fast I didnt protect item or mage. I lost sooo much, around 8m in items...

No, you dont not Guthans. The not I was talking about was for the whip. Leaf spear just looks like Guhthans anyway.

Also, not as much of a deal now, but Mauls switched with Rock Hammers used to be a famous one.
