Why does Firefox, with one tab open on a still text webpage sometimes constantly use 50-70% CPU. It makes it hard to play RS or Counter-Strike and have FF open at the same time.

On the tool bars go to...
Tools > Options > Cookies
Click [Clear cookies now]
Now...
Tools > Options > History
And change the number to, like, 7 or so.
Next step...
Tools > Options > Saved Forums
Click [Clear Saved Forums now]
Now...
Tools > Options > Passwords > View Saved passwords
Now click Remove all.
Then...
Tools > Options > Cache
Now lower the cache to like 15 MB or something.
If you want you can clar private data with ctrl+shift+del but i have not tried it and don't know what it does.
Now i have a link at my house that will help a FF memory leak, but i'm on vacation and can't get to it.
Check out viewtopic.php?t=145
I hope this helps...

I knew FF was a memory hog, but i didnt know it was a processor hog as well.

Here's a solution:

Start -> Control Panel -> Add/remove programs -> Firefox -> Remove.

That should sort any problems with firefox. It will never be a memory or processor hog ever again. XD

That firefox trim on minimise thing is a default setting in Opera and IE...

I never have problems.

I have Firefox open with 5 tabs, MSN, WindowsBlinds, Whatpulse, a weather thing, antivirus all open, and 4% CPU being used.

I can usually run ff with 5+ tabs, rs, msn messenger, yahoo messenger, winamp, norton internet security 2006, limewire, also running those messengers using msn msg plus, sending sounds, multi chats, etc. I still dont lag a bit, at most, 25% cpu usage with all that..

I don't use firefox because the Address Bar goes all wierd when i try to type something (only when i have more than 1 tab) as in if i was typing 'www.runescape.com', the cursor would jump so it would end up something like 'w.runeww.comscape' :?

Dan, I'm not sure if this is you or not but there are some problems with Dual core machines and firefox.(AMD chips) The fix for this is detailed and long so Pm me if you have a dual core cpu. I did the fix and it made things instantly faster.

If anyone else has a dual core AMD X2 and is having firefox problems, PM me and I can show you the fix as well.

I had that problem. I think its something to do with Java. I you dont have the latest version of Java, download and install it.

You could also try getting the latest version of FF, too, that might help. If that doesnt help, get Firefox 3 Alpha, its a complete recode, and that may fix it.

If it doesnt, get Opera. It pwns FF. A lot.
