Sound help

The sound isn't working on my computer. Videos and mp3files stop like 2 seconds into them. What do I do??

Make sure your sound card is working right and make sure the speakers are all plugged in all the way. If they are in like that then you might have problem with the speakers themselves or mabye the file you are trying to play. Also make sure your media player has no problems.

Ok,and its not 1 file I've tried several diferent vids,and 2 mp3 songs.where do i check sound card though?

how old is your soundcard? These things do stop working' unfortunately. Mine did

As Dave said;

Check your sound card, this is inside your computer and should be the card that has the pink, green and blue circle ports in it. If they aent colour coded, it should have something to tell you that its where your speakers plug into

Download the latest Media Player, which is version 10 I believe. it can be found in on the Microsoft website.

If that doesnt work, try different speakers, headphones etc.

if that STILL doesnt work, I'd just assume your sound card broke and get a new one, :S. Unless someone else has any ideas.

Like the've said you can check your soundcard although your computer probably has onboard sound(unless you put a soundcard in it) that means that there is a chip on you motherboard that controls the sound and you speakers plugin to the motherboard.

Another good thing to do would be to go to your computer management and update your audio drivers, which you can access through Start menu-->right click on my computer-->click manage--> click the + on sound, video and game controllers then right click whichever ones have "audio" or "media" in there names and select "update driver..." if all the devices have up-to-date drivers then check to make sure they are all functioning properly by right clicking and selecting properties if all drivers are running properly then you may need to spend some money and get yourself a soundcard.

This is my dads computer so my dad would have to change hardware,as for the drivers they are working.
