Player Killer (a.k.a. PK’er): One who kills other players in the wilderness

Pking Team: A team of PK’ers

Clan: A group of people who do activities such as Pking, KBD trips, Host meeting, etc and is like a fraternity in Runescape.

Food Hugger: One who eats in combat when there hp is not low.

Pure:

Impure:

Ancient Mage: A player who uses Ancient Magic

God Mage: A player who uses God Magic (Saradomin Strike, Flames of Zamorak, Claws of Guthix)

Green Ranger: A player who has a Ranged lv of 40-49 and uses Green Dragonhide Armor (This term is mostly used in F2P because this is the best F2P Ranged armor.)

Blue Ranger: A player who has a Ranged lv of 50-59 and uses Blue Dragonhide Armor

Red Ranger: A Player who has a Ranged lv of 60-69 and uses Red Dragonhide Armor

Black Ranger: a player who has a Ranged lv higher then 69 and uses Black Dragonhide Armor

Mage Pure: A player with a low combat lv and high Magic lv

Ranged Pure: A player with a low combat lv and high Ranged lv

Defense Pure: A player with a low combat lv and a high defense lv (Usually a staking pure)

Iron Pure: A pure with 1 Defense

Introduction:
Pking is in my opinion is both the most fun and one of the best ways to make money in Runescape (Also the best way to loose money).
What you want to aim for as a Mage or Ranged PKer is a low combat lv and higher then normal Ranged and/or Mage lv. This guide will help you with Planning your Pking trips.

Planning your PK trip(s):
You can not just go into the wilderness unprepared. What I have found that works best is to first write a list of all the items I need so I can calculate how much money I will have to accumulate. An example of this list would be:

Items I Need to buy for my Pking trip:
- Saradomin Staff = 80k
- 200 Blood Runes = 100k
- Magic Shortbow = 5k
- 75 Rune Arrows = 30k
- Black Dragon Hide Legs = 15k
_______________ Total=230k

You want to aim for something like that. As you can see, the majority of the money spent was for Magic related items. If you don’t have the money, it is not wise to use magic. I would wait until around a high magic lv to use magic in the Wilderness unless your an Iron Pure.
There is more to goal setting then buying the items you need, you also have to train to achieve good Ranged and or Mage lvs to even think about Pking.

Things to Wear in the wilderness:
There are a lot of people who just don’t know what to bring while Ranged and/or Mage Pking. I hope this helps you. We will start from the top of the body and work our way down to the bottom.

Ranged:
Head - I STRONGLY suggest wearing a coif. They are only around 100-200gp, and most people have them in their bank. Besides, what else can you wear?

Cape – I suggest you wear the Obsidian Cape. For Legends, a legends cape will do. Regular Capes are your only option for F2P. A Fremennik cape is fine too. Capes (Not God capes) give +2 Ranged bonus.

Neck – For members I would suggest an Amulet of Glory (Gives +10 everything atk bonus and +3 everything def bonus) or an Amulet of Power will do (+6 Attack and Defense Bonus). For Non-Members and lower lv members, I would strongly suggest the Amulet of Power (Gives +6 everything for atk and def), or the Amulet of Accuracy (+ 4 everything atk bonus).

Arrow slot – While Pking, I would maybe bringing some lower priced arrows for npc’s and other misc. things, but also bring a good amount of the best arrow your able to fire (Around 75-200 Arrows depending on how long your PKing). If you are using throwing items, I suggest you bring a Magic Shortbow and arrows if you are able to weild a Magic Shortbow. The special attack is a great first attack, and then you can easily switch to your thrown items. For F2P, bring the best arrows you can fire from your bow and maybe some lower priced arrows for npc's

Weapon – For F2P, bring the best bow and the best arrows you can weild. For P2P, I would also suggest bringing the best bow and the best arrows you can bring. Also, you should read about the shield, which may change some of your minds on ringing a bow and arrows.

Shield – This is not a problem for Non-Members, because Bows don’t allow you to wield shields, and bows are the only non-member Ranged weapon. For members who use throwing knives and throwing axes, I would suggest the best sq. shield you are able to wield. Since Rangers get owned by warriors on the PKing triangle (Diagram of Pking triangle deeper in the guide), it is best to get a shield that is good against warrior weapons. The kite shield would work better, but the sq. shield is less expensive, and you don’t need a whole lot of defense as a Ranger. Ranged weapons are more aimed towards quick kills (Both Magic and Ranged have their strengths and weaknesses; we will get more in depth as you read further in the guide).

Chest – This is very simple. Just wear the best Ranged body armor your able to wear. Preferably Dragonhide, but even a Hard Body or Studded Body will do if you don’t have 40 Ranged.
*NOTE* Dragonhide body require 40 Defense to wear. Also, Green is the only Dragonhide body which you must have done [U]Dragon Slayer quest.

Legs – Wear the best Ranged leg armor your able to wear.

Hands – Wear the best Vambraces you are able to wear. No gloves give Ranged bonus, so dont wear gloves of any kind.

Feet - For members, you should defiantly wear Boots of Lightness (Have to have started Temple of Ikov quest). They lower your total weight by 4kg. If you haven’t done that quest, or are a non-member, you should wear Leather boots.

Finger – For non members, I wouldn’t suggest wearing a ring because you cannot enchant them and they are pretty much useless. For members, I would wear a Ring of Life (Diamond), but defiantly bring a Ring of Recoil (Sapphire). If you have to choose between the two, bring a Ring of Life. (To see information of what the Ring of Life does, click here Ring of Life )

Magic:
Head - For F2P I would strongly suggest a Wizards Hat (Blue). I say this because it gives the most F2P Magic Attack bonus of +2. For members I would suggest wearing a Mystic Hat (10k at the Magic Guild or around 10-25k from players)

Cape - For F2P, any old cape will do. For P2P, there’s variety. I would strongly suggest wearing a God Cape (Saradomin, Zamorak, or Guthix) if you have done Mage Arena

Neck – I would only suggest wearing an Amulet of Magic. It gives plus 10 to Magic, which is the best F2P and tied for the best for P2P Attack bonus an Amulet can give. (Tied with Amulet of Glory which also gives +10 Magic Attack Bonus.)

Arrow Slot – Unless you are bringing a bow and arrows, I don’t suggest taking any arrows.

Weapon - For F2P, use an Elemental Staff (Air, Water, Fire, and Earth) of the spell you are using. For example, if you are using Fire strike, use a Staff of Fire, if you are using Earth Strike, use a Staff of Earth. For P2P, there is a VERY BIG selection. Most of the good staves require either a Quest or a Mini-Quest to weild/purchase, such as the three God Staves. Many of these staves also have their own Spells, Such as Iban Blast is used with Iban Staff, Saradomin Stike is used with Saradomin Staff, and Magic Dart is used with Slayer Staff (For more information of Staves, see the Magic Skill Guide). It is mostly up to you on which staff you pick, but usually people tend to lean towards being either Ancient Mages or God Mages.

Shield – For F2P, I wouldn’t suggest bringing a shield. For members you have a few options. You could bring an Elemental Shield, which doesn’t lower your Magic Attack Bonus like metal shields do, or if you are wealthy you could think about bringing a Prayer Book (Must have completed Elemental Workshop Quest to weild and make Elemental Shield, must have completed Horror from the Deep Quest to buy a Prayer Book for 5k then add the 4 Torn Pages into the book that correspond with the Book).

Chest – For F2P and P2P players who are not so wealthy, I would suggest wearing a Wizards Robe (Gives most F2P Magic Attack Bonus). For P2P players who are somewhat wealthy should wear a Mystic Robe (Top).

Legs – For F2P and not so wealthy P2P players I would suggest wear a Monks Robe bottom. You can find this at the Prayer Guild west of Edgeville or buy from other players for around 500gp-2k. For P2P you wear either a Zamorak robe bottom, a Blue Mystic robe bottom, or Splitbark legs, depending on your Defense level.

Hands – For F2P you should wear either Colored or Leather gloves even though it only gives around +1 or +2 Defense bonus. For P2P, you should wear Chaos Gauntlets (Need to have completed Family Crest quest to weild, then pay 50k to change them to Chaos gauntlets) or Mystic gloves/Splitbark Gloves if you can wear it.

Feet – For F2P, you should wear Leather boots. For P2P, you can either wear the same as F2P, purchase Mystic Boots if you can wear it, or buy a pair of Wizard Boots if you dont mind paying the extra buck.

Finger – It is not necessary to bring any rings while F2P Pking since you can not enchant them. For P2P, I VERY strongly suggest you bring Ring of Life! I say this because while Pking, many things can go wrong. Or you can just wear a Ring of Recoil if you are confident in your "staying alive" skills.

While in the Wilderness…:

Practicing Pking:
This is a pretty important part of Pking. As they say, Practice makes Perfect!, and this is a “Perfect” example. Here are three ways that never fail. One way (Both F2P and P2P) is to ask one of your good friends, preferably someone you know in real life, to fight you in the wilderness. Make sure that you trust them! If you are going to Range, try to get the person you are fighting to Mage you and if you are Maging, try to get the person you are fighting to Melee you (These rules apply in real wildy dueling too. Follow the Pking triangle!) Another way that works like a charm (P2P only) is Chaos Rune-Crafter Pking. This is good if you have 55-80 Combat (The higher the better). All you have to do is go to the Chaos Rune Alter, located in lv 9 wilderness north of the prayer guild, and try to kill the Chaos Rune crafters as they come our. If you are Ranging, try to attack them with poison arrows before they enter the temple so they loose health while walking in the temple. This forces them to 1. Hurry up while in there so they don’t die, and 2. Makes it easier to PK them when they come back out of the alter because they are constantly loosing health. Most of the people who craft never bring a Weapon or Armor, so that leads to easy kills (Also, if you could use Bind, Snare or Entangle on them, it would be idea.

Pking spots: - Under Construction!
These are some of the best Pking spots that I personally have came across.

What to do while in Combat:
Ranging: If you are a ranger and come across a Mage that you are confident you can beat, attack him. Don’t forget to pull out the Dragonhide. Dragonhide is like a protective mage barrier, it protects most Magic Attacks. If you come across a Warrior, I would run unless you are 85+ ranged. If the warrior has Addy armor or above, your arrows wont do much damage. If the player only is wielding a weapon (no/low lv armor and skulled), then you should attack (if you want). If you come across a fellow ranger, you should first either ask him to team, or if you are confident you can beat him, attack.

Maging: If you are using Magic and come across a Warrior, I would suggest you fight (If the player’s Combat lv is around your magic lv). If you come across another Mage you should first look at the players combat lv and then, if it is higher then your wait for the player to do something (Attack you, log out or run). If he is lower then you and you think you can take him, attack him (only if you have enough food and runes to kill the pest). If you come across a Ranger, all I can tell you is…RUN! Mages don’t stand a chance with Rangers, they tare you to pieces. Ranged armor is so good against Magical attacks, getting in a fight with a ranger with Dragonhide armor is like you standing there letting him kill you. So again, just run…

How-To Auto-Cast a certain spell:
Attacking with Magic, as most people know, is very different then both Ranging and Melee. With Ranged and Melee, all you have to do is click Attack on your opp. and you automatically attack them. Magic is a whole different thing. For Attacking with Magic, you have to first click on the spell, then click on the player/npc’s you want to attack. There is an easier way to attack with Magic, and it is called Auto-Casting! Below are a set of instructions on How-To Auto-Cast.

Directions on how to auto attack with a certain spell:

1. Click the “Use Spell” button
Image

2. Click on the spell you want to auto attack with.
Image

3. Click Attack with (What ever spell you choose). A way you can know if your Auto-Caster is on or not is by looking to the Attack With button. If the button is Red that means that it is tuned on. If the button is a dirt-like color that means that the Auto-Caster is turned off. Now when ever you attack anything, you will attack using the spell you chose.

It’s that simple!

Ancient Magic:
(Under Construction)

Which worlds go with which types of Pking: (Currently being worked on)Many people just don’t know what world to go on while PKing. I hope the chart below helps you find what world to go on while fighting certain enemies:

Target: World(s):
- Players with low lv-no armor - World with 1200 and below players

Players with Good armor/Stats - Worlds with 1650+ players

Players who are in the wilderness - World with 1000 and lower players
to either obtain items or train
skills/combat:

Team Pking/Clans:
Team Pking ha its goods and bads, as do all great things. We will start with the positives. With a Team/Clan, you will have a lot of fun, get a lot more kills, have somewhat of a security or safer feeling while in the wilderness, and hopefully your team/clan will share the drops. The negatives are that you can be betrayed, you don’t get the kills by yourself, and unless you’re the leader, you have to go with the rest of the clan (You can’t go where ever you please). Finding a clan is quite easy. RuneHQ has as official clan (I would suggest joining this clan because you know you can trust them), you can just look for a clan/team in the Forum or you can search for a clan while on Runescape. The only problem with finding a clan on Runescape is that you don’t know who anybody is and you don’t know if you can trust them or not. If all fails and you can’t find a clan or PKing team, you can always make your own.

pretty nice guide! But, not too many p2p people would want to risk a 300k cape, the obby cape, in the wild...either stick with legends, or another cheap cape.
