No story in CoD4, it was just 'we have to kill him cause he's the leader' then you get to the end and shoot him, while your team get injured, but I didn't even care what the **** happened to Gary or whoever.
Most western games like these are crap and can't get the feel Japanese games can.
Funny, what was the aim on the latest war the world faced Iraq? Fairly sure that set about trying to stop one man. What about Afghanistan? Pretty sure that was the same deal.
Thing is, call of duty was supposed to be realistic. We can't have blonde spikey haired 15 year olds leaping about with massive swords taking on some cliche evil character.
You'd be surprised when it comes to Western games, the Japanese used to have the edge but lately, the last couple of years they've been falling behind in story, graphics, gameplay to the west. Some Japanese devs have even spoken out and admitted it.
Just look at the latest JRPGs to come out, Lost Odyssey? Average graphics for this day n age, straight forward A-B story, gameplay we saw over 5 years ago. Same goes for Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonyata (admittedly the gameplay had an interest twist but it was still the basic thing) i could keep going on but i imagine I look nerdy enough. :O
You only have to look at the latest wave of western rpg's, Mass Effect, Oblivion, hell fallout 3.
I'm no fan of RPG's, they bore me for the most part once in awhile I'll find one i love but for the most part i don't think the genre evolves enough but the western RPGs are taking steps forward right now.
Only Japanese dev i can think of that are doing anything right would be Capcom and Nintendo.
