The following is credited to http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3597347 and this is a subject to debate.

Quote:
Today's sysadmin todo list:
0. Get corporate membership with EFF.
1. Identify all applications with user-generated content.
2. Move all associated domains to a non-US based registrar.
3. Migrate DNS, web serving and other critical services to non-US based servers.
4. Migrate yourself to a non-US controlled country.

I'm sorry for US sites and users. Your government is hell-bent on turning the internet into a read-only device like TV, easily regulated and controlled. The population will be required to sit quietly and keep their eyes glued on the screen so they don't miss the ads, with any infringers deemed terrorists and pedophiles and thus deserving of summary punishment by DHS squads.

Hopefully the internet will route around the damaged segment, and the rest of us can continue to enjoy the amazing interactivity it has brought our society.

Agree or disagree? Thoughts? Share/debate, I would love to see other peoples' opinions on this.

Stop kicking a dead horse.

Yes, censorship and loss of rights is bad

Yes, stealing is bad

Yes, internet piracy is not necessarily a lost sale, but it still can be

Yes, making people abide by all the laws of their country is good

The internet should be about freedom of expression, but it should also have limits. If they are improving on someone else's work without profits (a cover released for free, by someone without a youtube partnership), but if they are blatantly taking or making profits off of someone else's work (including revenue from youtube partnership), they should be forced to pay royalties to the people who own the IP, and I'd say in the realm of 90% is fair considering they stole the intellectual property of someone else.

If you disagree with anything I just posted, I don't care. I have a fairly centrist attitude on this whole issue, and you're not changing my mind.

I wasn't trying to change your mind, fellow who has the same name as me. I was just expressing the fact that I happen to agree with the article posted by the source, and I wanted to see how others felt about the issue. I also happen to think you have several points...

I just think the RIAA, MPAA, DMCA, SOPA, etc.. Are fundamentally flawed and overdramatized in importance. I also think they are evil.

I agree with Thomas on the point that you are kicking a dead horse. We understand how you feel about it firering. I think you've made roughly 10 topics on the subject. Perhaps it's time to move on?

You're the one over-dramatizing them. I know they can't touch me, since the only polices of theirs I do break are commonly accepted by law makers and politicians as retarded (illegal to take a CD you purchased at a store and store the files digitally on your own computer etc.). Because I know I'm not in danger of being prosecuted by them, I ignore them and go back to listening to the music I purchased with my money and playing the games I've bought. This does make me wonder about what you do in your spare time, that is, apart from fear mongering on a runescape fansite.

Debate = fear mongering? I spend 15 minutes on this site per day (apart from when there is an Informer article that I care about)

I believe you mean "In what context", asking what context is not included is like asking how many colors there are that aren't maroon.
