Wiki Article

I know this is slightly old news, but did anyone actually want to go out and get this. I myself didn't get it although I had a decent student discount for it (which I may still have). For one thing, I'm still getting used to 2007 and have finally gotten to a point where I'm actually comfortable with it. Also, there is no reason to update every three years. In fact, this is really just a way to earn money by Microsoft. As far as I'm concerned, Office 2003 is still quite a good program if not the best I ever used, but since everyone else upgrades, it's hard to keep up with the times. Unless I was actually getting this software for free, I have no interest in it for the time being or near future. Anyone else have similar thoughts or something to say about it???

Worth upgrading from 2003, not from 2007 unless you rely heavily on Outlook.

On the performance side, this office actually beats previous versions, and yet more, there's finally a x64 architecture version.
There isn't much to get used to. It's a lot like office 2007 except some changes on the menus I guess.
But in the end if you don't want to spend a lot, just stick with 2007.

I still use 2003. I tried 2007 but it was a pain to find all the stuff that easy to locate in '03.

Since you say it's similar to '07, I'm not going to use 2010.

Have fun once you get into the workplace. 2003 was a while ago, and it's not going to come around again.

Not saying you've gotta upgrade, but if the interface is what's holding you back, you better get used to it.. Microsoft isn't going to change back. And since it's either Microsoft, or Open Office for home use, for now you've got an option for the new or old style. Once you're in the workplace, good luck trying to do stuff in Open Office.. It's far too underpowered for business use besides the word processor.

problem is i bit a lot of small companies are probably using window 2000 cuz they don't want to upgrade. look at a lot of library computers and almost all of them are before 2003

I'd hope to jeebus that they're not running Windows 2000. It's no longer supported at all, and that's pretty much an invitation to get infected. Considering the most recent security issue involving shortcut files, being on Windows 2000 + IE6 is just asking for trouble.

At any rate, in a few years everything will have moved on. Point being, it doesn't hurt to learn how new software works before giving up and going back to the known.

If you've got the time try out the beta until October, or better use a trial for up to 180 days and at least learn how to use it. I'd be extremely surprised if after half a year you'd want to go back to Office 2003.. Same goes with XP to Vista/7

I actually pre-ordered my version and got in on the day of it's release. I love working with it. On my work we still work with Office 2003 and I can say I'm pleased that they'll finally switch to Win7 and Office2010 later this year.

I'm also very happy they removed that office button. I didn't had much trouble with the ribbon-style interface but that button was just plain confusing. And for those that don't like the ribbon-interface. I suggest switching to it for a month or so and it will be so much better. They really thought about where they placed all the menu items. It's much better organized.
