I'd suggest avoiding refurbished just because it has been used before and you just can't be sure of the condition of the parts. If you are fine with getting a refurb, then go ahead by all means, but I'd try to find a cheap laptop that hasn't been used but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I know Tiger Direct has some really good deals on laptops like that. If you don't mind refurb, that computer you mentioned sounds like a really good one to go with. What's the hard drive space like on it?

Probably the best I could find at Newegg for that price is this one, but if you're going to be gaming you're kinda screwed..

Before really looking around, what are you looking for in the laptop? General web browsing, a bit of gaming, Photoshop editing, etc? At your price point you'll have to have something to give up, but you should still be able to get a decent laptop.. Also, what screen size are you looking at?

Hey,

Well I am looking at something I could play StarCraft II on, and be able to do school work, which means databases. If I need to raise my price a little, I think I could do that.

I like your suggestion too. Here's a question (note I am not very tech savvy when it comes to laptops) Would it be possible to upgrade the graphics in the future?

It probably is possible, but it's a pain as it takes a long time to take apart a laptop to install a better graphics card. If you aren't tech savvy, you will need help taking apart the laptop and adding or improving older parts. If you can find a person to do that, then upgrading anything shouldn't be a problem in the future.

It is possible on a very few amount of laptops to upgrade the graphics card, you'd have to research it quite a bit. Even then it would be hard to find the correct part because most laptops have different kinds of connectors from each other, or it might just have to be soldered right onto the motherboard. I don't even know where you'd buy a laptop graphics card, most places don't sell them. You'd also void your warranty opening your laptop up if you are planning on upgrading it relatively soon after getting it. So yeah, definitely wouldn't recommend trying it.

Starcraft 2 has relatively low minimum requirements compared to other recent games, but I don't think you'd be able to play it on anything higher than the lowest settings on a $500 laptop if you can at all.

This one has a better graphics card and you might be able to play SC2 on it, but it's worse on the CPU side and has less RAM than the one Paul posted.
