Ok. I'm just about to switch over to a new internet service provider with ADSL2+. The only problem is that im not sure exactly how much would i be using (just like my last provider.). The total allowance of gigabytes i am getting is 135GB (35 peak, 100 off-peak). I only really play three main games (modern warfare2, counterstrike source, and runescape). I know for a fact that runescape dosen't take up alot. But it's the other two im not too sure about. Why "Dodo" (internet provider im switching to), dosen't equally halve the data, i don't know.

Just want to get a idea of how much data is used on everyone elses ISP's for these three games, and how i can track it without going over. (obviously, the more you play, the more data is used).

Cheers, dafin0

Online gaming doesn't use a lot of bandwidth as everything is local, and you're just sending and receiving movements and positioning from the server. Looks like maximum for CSS is 40mb/hour, so you're fine there. MW2 appears to have a similar usage, and i'm guessing RS is even lower.

So basically no worries.

Also if you want to track, I'd recommend using something on your router such as DD-WRT as it has many useful features such as bandwidth monitoring.

Speaking to what Pfk said, the other day I found out that WoW takes up approximately 19gb on your computer fully installed and patched. Quite interesting. Anyways, most these games are stored locally and the demand on your internet connection is just like Pfk said...receiving and sending moments in the game. You should be fine with the service you will be getting.

Thanks for that. Those numbers are really low :o

So can i lock this program to a specific application im using, or does it monitor all data usage at once?

Cheers, dafin0

DD-WRT is just one option, and it would be a different firmware for you router. You can run something locally on your computer too, but since you're probably not alone, it's wise to keep up with what everyone is using so you can keep everyone below your data cap.

135Gb is considerably more than 99.99% would need. Even if you're online gaming 24 hours a day, you won't get near it.

I've heard RS uses around 5-20MB/hour depending on how crowded it is.
