I'd hope to jeebus that they're not running Windows 2000. It's no longer supported at all, and that's pretty much an invitation to get infected. Considering the most recent security issue involving shortcut files, being on Windows 2000 + IE6 is just asking for trouble.
At any rate, in a few years everything will have moved on. Point being, it doesn't hurt to learn how new software works before giving up and going back to the known.
If you've got the time try out the beta until October, or better
use a trial for
up to 180 days and at least learn how to use it. I'd be extremely surprised if after half a year you'd want to go back to Office 2003.. Same goes with XP to Vista/7
