A little favour?

I was wondering if mods could put explanations as to why they lock certain topics. I know a lot of them are self-explanatory (question has been answered in a topic, person has returned from holiday, etc), but I think that people who are new to the forums might get confused at seeing topics locked for what might seem to them like no apparent reason.

Other locked topics, even to me, can be confusing as to why they're locked. viewtopic.php?f=98&t=74559&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15 I'm guessing it was locked due to..flaming? I'm not even sure. If it was locked for flaming, why didn't a mod put out a warning before locking it?

This isn't a complaint about moderation, I think you guys are doing a great job. It can just be confusing to see randomly locked topics around the forums.

I'm sure we can try to do that in future, certainly at least where necessary as you suggest. Admittedly I get confused when I see locked topics from time to time, too.

This may be because you are looking in categories with inactivity. A topic is locked two weeks after the last post was made, to prevent old topics being bumped and causing confusion. There are not many topics locked for reasons other than this.

Yeah, the inactivity lock has been in place for a long time now because it makes it so mods don't have to manually lock posts that have been bumped from way back. I'm specifically talking about manual locks done by mods themselves.

An explanation would be nice, but I think the mods do a great job already in their judgment of locking topics. The explanation would help everyone else know the "Why", but I trust the mods are doing it for a reason and that's good enough for me.

Cause i see a mod close a thread and they sometimes do post reasons.Like the user wanted it lock,this thread is getting off topic,and stuff like that.

Well, I'm beginning to see them in locked topics a lot more (if not every one of them). Thanks for bringing it up, Mushroom, and for doing giving reasons now, mods.
