Is a sacred clay pickaxe worth using for mining - specifically power mining granite?
Any idea how the time taken to obtain them compares with XP gained?

Not really planning on doing any mining in the near future - nor playing Stealing Creation - but I was just wondering as I realised today that it could be a possibility, since mining is a very slow and boring skill. ;)

Thanks.

I hear that just straight out power mining the granite will give you faster XP.

The only reason people use the sacred clay axes is because they want to get their mining XP quicker by doing less of it.

If you get bored of mining quickly, then I would recommend saving the picks up. But if don't mind boredom, I'd just straight up powermine it.

mining pickaxes are good for people who do not like to mine a lot
but just powermining granite gets you a lot faster xp

When Owen and I were going for 70 Mining, I used all of the Sacred Clay Pickaxes I had, along with power-mining the granite, and got it around the same time as him, when I was a couple of level lower than him.

I got it like one day ahead of you :P.

If you have like 5+ pickaxes/tools, you should definitely use them, makes mining way faster.

Generally sacred tools are only effective with expensive skills because it costs so much money to train them you can sacrifice time for the minigame to save a lot of money.

For skills like woodcutting and mining it's only really worth it if you're planning on doing a skotm type competition where you save up a tonne of tools and then gain a crap load of experience in the first few days.

a game of stealing creation lasts 18 minutes with a 2 minute cooldown, and you can easily get 20+ points in that time. by my third match i'd already locked in getting 22 points a game. if the sacred clay tools last more than 20 minutes of mining your target ore, its worth your while to get them. someone should mine 100 iron, 100 coal, and 100 gold, to see if it is time based, exp based, or items completed with the tool out. if its time based and lasts more than 20 minutes in total, then its 100% worth using them. if its exp based then it is more worth it for every day miners that are mining slow ores like adamant and mithril, since you'll be gaining exp slowly anyway, you wouldn't fill up the exp limit in 20 minutes of mining with it. if its ore count based, then its only worth it for power mining if it has a huge item cap. if its small, say 250, you'll mine far more granite than that in 20 minutes, so you'd just waste your time at sc.

however, stealing creation is devilishly fun, and you might want to factor that in :)

EDIT: the items are based off a set amount of experience per tool. tested with woodcutting, and you get 16k total bonus exp per tool. can you wc 16k exp in 20 minutes? :P

you can find out how much exp your tool gives you for mining pretty easily. use a new tool to mine a rock that gives you a regular incriment of exp. 50, 100, something that divides into 100 with a simple fraction remainder. mine 1k exp worth of ore if possible (will be 2k with the tool on) then track what % it is at. then: 1000/[100-(%left)]x100 = how much bonus exp you can get.

I'm pretty certain that the level you have in a certain skill greatly affects how much xp you get before the item dies out. As to whether or not to do Stealing Creation, my answer is this. Stealing Creation is a heck of a lot better than grinding.

I have level 70 mining and using Cooper's formula I seem to get 7,142 bonus xp for the sacred clay pickaxe. Sacred Clay are most helpful towards the crafting, construction, and smithing skills considering they save you time AND money.

When I used one for iron it gave me like 7k xp :? I dont know whether it goes by xp gained or number of ores mined though

the couple i used at granite only lasted a half hour at best. meaning u'd have to either bank often or carry a good supply of them while drop mining the granite with them. either way seems like a waste of the effort getting each of them for a measly half hour of 2x xp.

I was wondering the same thing only about fishing... I know you get like double exp, but does the harpoon suck so bad that it doesnt even catch fish at all? or is it worth using all the way to 99?

it definitely seemed slower to me. i caught them faster bare fisting the water than i did with the sacred clay harpoon. the exp increase still made it better though.

I believe that they are worth using, especially if you do non-cb sc. the games last 12-14 minutes instead of about 20. join clanchat sc_claymates for fun non-cb sc. (you need to wield a bow without arrows)
