In f2p, what is the best way to go on smithing? Silver bars, steel bars (for profit, probably), or something else? And when training smithing, should one use blast furnace spell as well? Thoughts?

I would say steel bars too just for the profit and they sell very fast on ge. You could also try making mith bars and into plates for more profit and xp.

I would superheat mith bars. I did it for a while and it is good xp and there is no loss and maybe profit.

So steel bars if I want profit. What about silver bars for pure training? Or is it better to train with steel bars anyway?

Its still better to smith steel bars, you make more xp either way. Money is still pretty good.

Ok...when I train smithing, I'll do steel bars. It's a little slow going, but a profit is always good for me. 8) Thanks for the input. By the way, I will be asking a lot of skill questions pertaining to f2p skills more often probably. So just a heads up.

That's fine, more questions the better! Good luck training smithing, and what level do you wish it to be before doing something else?

Well.. If I were f2p.. I would make steel bars and I would also mine my own ore to save money. Gold bars actually migfht be better for you though. Go to the crafting guide with your apron and get a full inventory and go back to fally and make the bars and sell. The only bad thing about this is that you don't get as much exp as you would with steel bars. I'm not sure about the price difference but I still think you should smith steel stuff. And guess what.. I typed all of this on my blackberry ahaha

I think for now I will plan on 70 and then later 85 (which will be very time consuming if I try for it.
