A very very fine conveyor belt; rollers as thin as microfibers. That's what my brother is guessing. As it extends, so does the conveyor, so the "stuff" is sort of pulled up as it passes by. At the same speed as it comes out, of course.

I agree with the conveyor belt idea. You can see it on there. The whole belt as a whole moves out as the conveyor belt moves towards the handle. The same is repeated as the belt as a whole moves in, the belt moves away from the handle. Since this happens at the same speed, the mess or whatever that is on the ground doesn't seem to move at all.
