Friendships

Are friendships created through the internet as valuable as friendships created in the realm of physicality ?

Depends on the person really. I'm sure that some are and some aren't.

I don't know. I don't have any friends in either worlds.
Actually I do.

Some might say you can easily lie about yourself on the internet, thus faking the friendship. But you can in real life too...How many times have you found out that one you thought was a friend was actually a jerk. Plenty of times.

Some people find it easier to talk on the internet, some in real life. I don't see why it should be seen differently.

May sound weird.. but one of my best friends I met on Runescape killing moss giants in 2007.
Our friendship grew outside of the game and when my "real life" best friend died 2 years back, she was there for me. She's part of the reason I'm still here today.

I think making true friends from online is rare. You got forum friends and gaming friends.. but how deep is that really?
But doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Now you should always make friends out in public, but it's not always easy for people to do so . Don't have all you're eggs in one basket kind of thing.

The thing is; I don't generally trust people on the internet (which is why I post most things in the sandbox that are personal in almost any extent)...

I feel that since they are not in "fighting distance" of you, that they are more likely to do you wrong. If you know somebody, you are less likely to hurt them because you know who you are hurting. But if it is a screen name, you are more likely to hurt somebody...

Just me? Maybe because I'm socially ****?

Oh well :/

Definitely yes. Some of my closest friends are people that I've met on the internet. When I was younger, my parents didn't really let me hang out with friends a lot because they were lovely strict azn parents, so I could only really make close friends on the internet. Some of the friends I made 5-6 years ago on the internet are still really close to me (and I've ended up meeting a few in real life as well).

Sure, But I would much rather meet someone in person. You just get a better feel for them and get to them better when you can actually hang out and talk face to face.

Without a doubt. I have some online friends who I would consider some of my best friends, even over people I know in real life.
