American law enforcement at its finest. Thoughts?

Who cares? Some people need to be thrown in handcuffs when having tantrums, and children sometimes certainly need it. Not like any harm was done.

i believe they also said that they were worried she may hurt herself. but then as a 6 year old, why couldn't the principle try and stop her?

Potential lawsuit. The only people somewhat safe from lawsuits are emergency services people (aka police, firemen, ambulances). Even they, though, are getting sued more. Unless you have a wavier or release, you are taking a chance on doing anything these days.

Yes. ^

I was a little mad when I saw the headline at first, but then I read more into the article. The child was being completely uncontrollable. If you try to hold the child to restrain it, that can really hurt the child. Sad to say, the police officer probably acted in the best way possible. I think the child was hitting, lunging and other stuff.

edit: yes, the child was throwing stuff, and knocking over bookshelves. You have to remember the staff is also in charge of keeping other children safe and this child was a hazard.

i bet they did the thing where they throw you to the ground and then kneel on your head and cuff you so tight that your hands get cut off too.

not that it matters for actual criminals

Just seems like a piggish thing to do.

And a waste of law enforcement.

It's funny because that school can't handle a 6 year old. Maybe it shouldn't be a school.

Why not just send the kid to the OR? They can't hurt anybody else in there. Then again, they could be a danger to themself (doing things like hitting against the wall).

I think cuffing her until she calmed down is fine, but charging a six year old with simple assault? Seems like a bit to much to me.

as a 6 year old, the charges would be dropped anyway. there's no court that would sue a 6 year old.

I think the parent's should be charged for lousy parenting. No child should ever behave in such of an out-of-control manner in public (or in the home for that matter). It just screams of a lack of discipline in the home and bad parenting. If the parents tried but failed, it's time to get that poor child to a shrink, and fast. If this is the way the child is acting now, can you imagine what type of adult she will be?

Perhaps the kid has mental issues?
