So, there are now currently four candidates left running for the Republican ticket. Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum. Perry Is currently dropping out of the race, leaving Santorum the only far-right candidate.

Who is your current favorite? If other, please post!

I like Romney. I am a moderate republican and I feel he favors a lot of the same views that I do.

EDIT: I allowed for re-voting.

I'm a democrat and my vote for the republican candidate doesn't matter in the real world, if I had to vote I would surely vote for Mitt Romney. Although he is known to be a "flip-flopper" by many, the "old Mitt Romney" supported some fairly liberal policies, and I don't consider his conservative side to be too far out there.

Also since John Huntsman is backing him, and had Huntsman still been running I theoretically would have voted for him, Romney seems like the obvious choice.

For pure ideas and wisdom I have to go with Newt Gingrich. The only thing I don't like about him is his baggage (3 affairs), I'm not sure if that should be a stumbling block in my view, I need to think about it more. As for who's best equipped to beat Obama it's Newt Gingrich. As for who best can appeal to voters it's Mitt Romney.

There was a poll released back in November comparing all the candidates chances of beating Obama. Romney's was highest, everyone else was pretty far behind. Remember it comes down to swaying independents and not appearing too conservative because it's not just about your party in the election it's about everyone.

Here's a good example of what I mean: Our current Prime Minister while in the opposition from 1997 appeared much more conservative than he is today. The party he was in advocated for things such as smaller government, private health care options, not allowing *** marriage, setting up an abortion law, to just name a few. In 2003 the Canadian Alliance merged with the defunct Progressive Conservatives in a move to "unite the right". After this their chances of forming government increased and Harper had to tone down his right wing ideas during election campaigns. He's become quite moderate over the last decade, the party has too but it won them this last election with a majority. Previously they were only locked to minorities because everyone out east remembered the very conservative Conservative Party of Canada.

So you have to ask yourselves, someone who is your ideal candidate and very conservative or someone who is less conservative but has a higher degree of electability. That's why I actually hope Mitt Romney wins.

What I would like to see is a Romney- Gingrich ticket. I don't think Gingrich is disciplined enough to be president, but has such great ideas he could play a good role as VP to someone like Romney whos a bit questionable on some of his positions like Healthcare and Abortion.

Same.

He's not perfect by any means. His foreign policy is a little lacking and his ideas about some things are out there, but he doesn't flip flop and he sticks to his principles...which is more than you can say for 95-99% of politicians.

Mitt Romney.
I'm a Democrat. I am going to vote for Mitt Romney if he gets the nomination. We need more cooperation between the parties... :(

I think his moderate views will help the parties get along.

Carter --> Reagan
Clinton --> Bush II

Note that Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II have been anything but moderates. I'm not sure if going with a moderate is the right course of action given past history. The question is: are americans fed up with Obama enough to make a substantial shift like they did going from Carter to Reagan?

I'm honestly not sure anymore what will happen. It seemed so clear when Romney was 2 for 2, now he's 1 for 3.

And I like Ron Paul the most.

Typically a candidate will shift towards the middle just to pick up some extra votes, then shift back to the right/left once he gets the nomination. Could just be a show. If Romney's too moderate, he won't get the Republican bid. If he's too Republican, he may not win the election. He has to balance it.

No...just no. Parties never get along based on how moderate a president is. If anything, it will make Congress more divided since no one can trust the president will sign a bill in their favor or not in their favor based on his moderate views.

@Shane
The right course of action is to focus more on Congressional races rather than the presidential race. To put it simply, Congress has more power and makes all the decisions. The president simply carries out the will of Congress. Until people realize that, then this country isn't going to change.

Bottom line: You get what you vote for. Vote for Obama...I'd say expect nothing to change (heh, see what I did there...change :roll: ). Vote for Republican...you'll probably get some change for the better.

If you absolutely forced me to choose a Republican, I'd probably go for Ron Paul.
Problems that I have with the other candidates:
Mitt Romney: Corporations are people. He finds weak corporations and chops them up. He's a serial killer.
Rick Santorum: Homophobe
Newt Gingrich: Insane

I believe that was James Madison who was the one that said political factions were a bad thing, not Washington. You really need to brush up on your history. And it wasn't the fact that nobody listened, but that factions and parties inevitably arise in a competition for power in government. Not like you could stop if from happening unless you stopped free speech.

And yes, Earth, it was Washington who wanted to avoid "entangling alliances" with other countries.
