"On Sunday December 4, the Iranian Army's electronic warfare unit downed the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft which was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, some 140 miles (225km) from the Afghan border," Iran's Press TV said in its report Thursday.

The New York Times reported Thursday that--unsurprisingly--the RQ-170 was lost while making the latest foray over Iran during an extended CIA surveillance effort of Iran's nuclear and ballistic weapons program.

Well trekkie, now Obama can say he shares something in common with Eisenhower. Guess that makes him even more moderate.

Every country knows spying goes on in their country or above it. I don't see this as a big deal...except that a lot of tax dollars went into making that thing. At least we didn't get a pilot captured along with it.

I would like to see Iran pluck a spy plane 50,000 feet in the air. Note that's nearly twice as high as commercial airliners at cruising altitude. Give them a thousand shots of any type of ammunition and I bet they couldn't do it. That they want to take credit for downing a spy plane is a joke. A lot can go wrong at such heights, so malfunction is really the only thing that COULD have happened. Some goat farmers were probably walking along and found it.

Not to mention that the plane was found intact. A missile usually destroys things pretty well. If they found it intact, it's a pretty good chance they didn't bring it down. I think it's just something that looks bad on the US more so than a praise for Iranian anti-espionage.

I'm honestly more surprised that the UAVs don't have a self- destruct system.

i would imagine that the U.S is trying to figure out how to get navy seals inside to destroy it. if it gets in the hands of russians or china, it can be very very bad.

Fairly ignorant to presume the chinese...or better yet the russians don't have there own means of spying. It wouldn't be very bad it'd be no different to how it already is. God knows what you expect the russians to do. Like China would do anything it's happy sitting back letting us **** up.

As for it being damaged if shot down. It's fairly strange it crashed and didn't sustain any major damage from the crash. I doubt Iran did shoot it down. But them putting a spin on it is no different to what your media would do in there position.

no i know that russia has their own stealth aircraft. they proved that a few years ago. but i wonder what is hidden in there they can use.

or maybe even hack.

I think I've missed your point oh wise one. That or you completely missed mine. My point was your media spins ******* just as much as Irans. And you lap it up just like the Iranian people.

If you was just trying to drag it off topic to point out the media doesn't represent a country i thank you. I did not realize this it was to my understanding Fox news spoke for America.

Let's be careful here. It's not "your media" or "the media" that's the topic here. The topic is the spy plane that Iran supposedly found. I don't want to have to clean this topic up because it turned into a US vs. the world in terms of media comparison. Any further posts pertaining to the US media vs. others will be removed. If you want to talk about your news stations compared to those in the US start a topic for that

And Creepy, every country has at least one news organization that spins the news in a particular way.

That plane looks like it could still fly. Coming down from 50,000 feet would result in a crater and maybe some pieces of debris, not a full aircraft. I say this is Iranian propaganda. A plane may have crashed but the picture in the article is certainly a fake.
