I have been wondering lately, which way works better? For instance the civil rights movement was a peaceful protest but at some times a violent protest due to groups like the black panthers. Many say it was a peaceful movement.
I think violent protesting works better, the declaration of independence would have been toilet paper to the British if we weren't organized and ready to fight. In the imperialist days there was only one African country that remained independent because they fought off Italians trying to occupy their country.
Other peaceful movements like Ghandi people say worked, but I say Britian was ready to give up India in the first place.

What do you think?

Exactly right. Good lad. We was only borrowing it to build them some nice traintracks. One man wouldn't stop a world wide empire and nor would a bunch of farmers turned traitor. :]

I think it depends on the situation. If you have some insane dictator in charge violence is the answer. If your in a peace loving hippy country you have to stand outside funerals with pitchforks claiming there going to hell for being ***.

Swings and round abouts really it's totally dependent on the situation. The riots we had here from students wasn't needed and completely underminded any point they was trying to get across. They just looked pathetic and lost a lot of support. Not that i supported them anyway. Boo **** hoo you have to pay your way in life who would of **** knew it.

It does depend on the situation. I think that for the most part it starts out as peaceful, but if the voices go unheard then it goes to violence.

I think both can work. Usually the situation dictates which one is needed.

No one listens to peaceful protest. On the other hand violent protest is like terrorism. Lol some crazy groups out there that I don't think I'd want using violent protest.

Exactly I think protesting peacefully isn't speaking the language of the government. Picket signs and chants isn't their language, money, power, and fear is a government's language. If you want to protest something you have to match their tactics. I am in no way condoning violent protesting towards your country because most of the people here have it good, in terms of their government system.

I say we kill 'em all. Rape the churches, burn the women.

Anyways, riots just cause problems for everyone, and peaceful protesting doesn't do **** anymore. So whatever.

Either one, depending on the situation. I think the key thing now, though is media coverage. The more coverage and well known the protest, the better results. These protests aren't just on a local level, but on the world stage. There's also a few other things that have changed with protests. People now have things like Facebook and the Internet as a whole to use for communication and coordination. Tactics for protesting have become more cunning and effective. The more times goes on, the more effective and successful protests start to become.

If your intentions are to overthrow a government where your people are suffering, how does a riot cause problems for everyone?
