Sometimes I wonder what makes someone think like this? What is the purpose of this? To garner national acclaim for having a pomp school in a poor, under performing district? I have a friend who attends a LAUSD school, and they had to end school a week early because they ran out of money...

well california is in a budget problem, arnie hasn't really fixed it, and our two running gov i feel will really accomplish nothing.

but in a way, this is just a liberal way of looking at it (i know shane will drill be for this later) better environment does help to improve learning, and not having to look at a broken window all day is good. and it would be future proof (or at lesat til 2012). and it's also K-12 which mean you'd have the same students in one school for 15 years of their lives. safety.

but then that is mighty expensive for one school.

School ran out of money so you had to finish early. That amuses me. Could they not keep the lights on anymore?

I attend a LAUSD school but this doesn't really matter to me because California has sucked budget-wise for a very long time and that's not about to change, even with governor elections coming. And my school district actually performs well ( highest scoring non-magnet school in southern California, second state-wide, and 82nd best high school in the nation)

@Phresh: You're talking about furlough days, right? Yeah those are for saddleback districts

If you are going to throw money at something send it somewhere where it will actually be used reasonably. Giving money to schools so they can buy fancy equipment means nothing IF THE PEOPLE RUNNING IT HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING

Train the teachers to be able to TEACH, not bump grades up so that their class doesn't fail so the school doesn't get penalized

Also education should come before punishment. Most high schools have some policy that if you're late to class (even by 1 second!) you get sent to a room where you sit and do nothing.

Besides the fact I dislike public education for multiple reasons, this is just bad planning and spending on the governments part. Not much else to say about it.
