The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Do you agree with this?

No. That line was stupid and meaningless in MW2.

I've never heard it anywhere else.

Oh noes! The quotation of doom!

Sometimes it is true, but not always. You can often see similarities between two situations you've been through. Not only this, but it also applies to people mostly. As much as they claim they've changed, as much they're the same as before.
People change, but there always a part of them which is never gonna change. It's always gonna be the same.

There are more ways than one to look at this saying.

In the sense that societal change is the norm, yes, the more things change, the more the stay the same.
In a literal sense, of course not. If something changes, by definition it does not stay the same.

Spoiler for Nietszche Quote:

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

The only problem I have with this statement is that it make it sound like it will stay the same more than it changes.... Which make no sence at all. So in most cases no.

Sometimes this statement is true and sometimes it's not. In general, it depends on what you are talking about and what change is taking place. And sure, if you examine anything closely enough, you could say the statement applies to everything. But in closing, I think it's just one of those phrases people use to describe a situation where nothing is working. Situations where nothing is working or where little is being done is where this statement might come into play.

Really, either things change and aren't the same or they just stay the same. Obviously if "the more things change, the more they stay the same," then not much, if anything, is changing at all.

I think it means that change is normal. The fact that things are changing is what stays the same. Not the things that are changing.
That change is always going to happen and constantly happens, and that things are going to progress not conserve.

I think it's a load of ******* and the English language and language in general was made to make life easier so why we have to come up with these stupid sayings that have no real answer and go absoluteley no where is beyond me.

I'd like to punch whoever came up with this and just about every other saying in the face.

English is one of the most inefficient languages.

I already knew this. Which is why i added on language in general. Because i knew someone would point out English isn't exactly the easiest language ever to master. However it's also got the most words of any language.

Which means you shouldn't need to talk utter ******* to make a point.

It's quite hard for me to fully agree with the quote, but I can't help to look at some certain things or people in life and truly realize how much they didn't change.

The only thing that stayed the same was change.
