There we have it. 2013 we're all screwed. The sun will bring the internet to it's knees. And despite the guys there saying there making preperations i get the feeling it'll be one giant **** up.

Especially for a country that isn't used to big massive natural disasters. We get crippled over a thin layer of ice and snow. We're buggered when this hits.

My physics teacher in high school talked about this and made the passing joke that if 2012 didn't get us, this would. If it actually is real and will happen, it will be interesting to see the outcome. It's much more realistic imo than a 2012 scenario, but that is just a scientific approach. Either way, I'm not going to worry about it until we actually get there in time. :P

Ok, so I can live with this 2012 crap.
But if 2013 takes our computers away, I will be one sad, sad individual.

There was a article, back in 2002, saying that by 2009 we would all be dead by almost the same reason exposed in this articled. It's a pity I can't find the source...

Okay, so if anyone else read this...
Quote:
...He said large swathes of the world could face being without power for several months, although he admitted that was unlikely.

Well, they aren't even sure of the aftermath themselves...

And, on the next line
Quote:
...A more likely scenario was that large areas, including northern Europe and Britain which have “fragile” power grids, would be without power and access to electronic devices for hours, possibly even days.

So, it's mainly affecting Europe only? Half the world could lose power while the other half only has slight problems? Highly doubt it.

Clearly says large areas. Dunno why you figure mainly europe. It meantions Europe specificly because it's a UK newspaper. I'd imagine a place like America which uses a lot of tech just like Europe would suffer from the aftermath, whatever it might be. Where as a place like Iraq really isn't going to have much trouble because it's a dump.

It seems what he's saying is that countries with more advanced and protected infrastructure would be better off than underdeveloped countries. Frankly, I think if something like this is big enough or powerful enough, it will greatly impact every place in the world, whether or not they have advanced technology or not.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. People have been making predictions of this nature since we started using electronic devices.

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

I'm surprised nobody's brought up Y2K yet.

It looks like according to the article it'll be mainly people on the eastern hemisphere who will be affected; specifically Europe.

Bloody hell. I hope I'm not affected because I'm in America.

Yea seriously, what ever happened to Y2K? And going on with what Trekkie said - why does it seem like all these "end of the world" disasters have to happen in our generation/lifetime?

I'm not worried about it. We've survived without this stuff. All the things we use now are just luxuries. If it's that bad, take your money out of the bank and hold it somewhere safe, use a road map instead of your gps. I think we can live without twitter. just send a letter.

There will always be some new armageddon scare.

The human race is paranoid, that or anxious.

Anyways, it seems to be out of our hands. If the sun gets turned to high and cooks our electronics that would be very unfortunate indeed.
