Do you guys value people you meant online as much as you do your real life friends? After-all most people, if one of their irl friends wanted to hang out, they wouldn't be like "Oh im playing this great game with my friend" they would most likely go. Just wondering your guys opinions. Personally, i treat my online friends as i would irl friends, allthough i wouldn't pass up an irl friend to play a game with an online friend.

(Wow, that was wordy)

I couldn't really decide which option to choose so I'll try to explain my self in other words.

For me, it depends on the person really. I find it harder to make friends online: You can't see their faces, hear their voices, so you can't really judge them well (unless you're chatting through a webcam/microphone, which is something I only use with people I know physically). But still, it is possible to make very good friends in the "series of tubes" a.k.a. internets.
After a knowing someone for a long time, I'll probably start treating them as real life friend :P . But I dunno, takes a long time.

Yeah, I sound like an old lady afraid of the interneters...

Difficult question.. I've known a lot of people who started off as online friends and then became irl friends. For the ones that it isn't feasible to meet up with but have known for a long time.. I'd say I treat them near enough as equals with my real life friends. Although if my real life friends asked me to go out somewhere, I'd rather go than stay home talking on MSN or Skype or Ventrillo.

I treat them the same, a lot of it depends on how well or how long I have known them and the trust they have gotten with me. But if I were invited to do something irl i would most likely do that then stay at home w/ online friends.

I like my online friend more than my offline (rl) friends. Probably because the people I meet online actually like the things I like. My classmates like totally different things than I do. And with all of my friends, we only have one thing in common so after like two minutes of conversation, there is nothing we can talk about. Sad but true.

Probably should have made it a "Choose multiple options poll." My stance is I don't treat my online friends the same as my real life friends. I'd also rather take real life friends over online friends for obvious reasons. I mean, the people you meet online are interesting and cool sometimes, but you really never get to know them. I personally don't like making "friendships" online just because I never trust anyone online. You don't know their motives, you can't get to them if they live far away, and some can really do more damage to you online than a real life friend could do in real life. Anyways, I much prefer real life friends to online friends, but I think they have a relevant place in most peoples online interactions.

Dakota,

You have influenced my vote so much that it is impossible to put it to words. Thanks for impacting my life. Heehee. I treat online friends nothing to my real friends. Geez, take a look at OC for example.

With love,
Bryan

Overall I'd put my real life friends in front of everything in my life. But for a couple of online friends, I'd do my best to be there for them all the time and treat them as I do my real life friends. But like I say there's only 1 or 2 people like that.

We all go through that at least once.
Just blend in. You'll never know who'll meet. Take my advice.

I don't have any friends except for my mum and nane so this problem has never come up for me personally. I think I'd pick online because i can turn them off whenever i like.

My online friends and real life friends are on the same level of importance. A handful of people I know online I consider really close friends, and while the circumstances are different, they're still people even if I can't see them face to face. I wouldn't really put preference on irl friends because some of my online friends have become irl friends, so it's not like there's that much of a difference. Nonetheless, friends are friends, no matter where they are or how you talk to them.

Well said.

A lot of people I talk to think that "They can't be your friend if you've never met them"
I think friendship is friendship, no matter what form it's in. For instance, I have friends in Canada, Britain and New Zealand and I consider them as some of my best friends in the world.

For me, it's on a case-by-case basis. Although usually I'm closer to my irl friends just by the virtue of being around them so much, mostly due to school (and secondarily church). And my parents are anti-computer (being on the computer for hours a day), so it's difficult for me to 'hang out' with my online friends too much.
