I'm kinda looking for study tips, but I'm also just curious how people study.
So just post what you generally do/where/with who.

Um... When I was studying for my exams, I looked over all my notes on my laptop (for Chemistry) for an hour or 2, looking over what I wasn't sure of or what I forgot. For Math, I just looked through my workbook that had all the math problems I needed to know and learned how to do them. For where I studied I was either in my bed warm or on my living room chair studying under some blankets (it's cold in edmonton :(). Hope it helps.

Ahaha you're a big boy with proper exams now. :D

I have a friend who moved to Australia a couple of years ago who took every Friday off school to study when he was over there. He moved back to New Zealand in the middle of last year and as a result he retained an incredible self discipline, so he studies for hours every night now. Not sure how he manages it or what he does, for I on the other hand am terrible at studying.

Best tip I could give you is to find a friend or two who are studying the same things you are, and invite them over or something. For example, another friend has grabbed me each of the past two years to help her with French, Maths and English (the classes we are in together), and last year we had a strict routine going where I'd go round to her place every night. Needless to say my parents became very frustrated carting me to and fro. This method works for me because I'm far too easily distracted at home, and I'm kept motivated by having another person to bounce ideas off. It might sound like the exact opposite in that you'd be more easily kept from working, but as long as you get the right person who is also willing to study then you'll be fine.

I usually study for a few hours if need be. I usually do not have to, as I get most of my homework done during the class period, and retain a good amount of knowledge from it. I usually like to study outside my room, there are just too many distractions in there. I also do not enjoy the library, it just seems a little too full of itself for studying.

Yeah I study for large tests, generally while listening to music and AFKing Rs, like woodcutting, or making cannonballs because it is nice and slow.

Studying does tend to be a major portion of college life.. That's why it's so fun! [/s]

Review any notes from class, as there's usually something that will tell you what will be on the exam. Some professors go directly from the notes, others from homework assignments. If it's a Math / Science class, the majority of the points will come from homework, while a History, Psych, Lit, etc class will likely be from in class experiences.

If there was homework, be sure you understand how to do all of the problems. They will likely reappear on exams.

Studying can be tough task, specially when you're in college or university.
There isn't time for anything! Almost every free moment you have needs to be sacrificed for your studying.

Subjects like Maths and Algebra, physics, Algorithms , require training, loads and loads of it.
Grab the paper with exercises you did in class and repeat all of them! Do this 2 times, 3 times, 4 times, the times needed until it gets inside your head.

Subjects like psychology, and history don't require as much training, specially if you have good memory. Just read, re-read, and read it again.

Another tip:
Don't study at home. You'll always get distracted by something.
Yeah I know... Its nice to stay at home but there you have food, you have your computer, your harm place! After that, you look at the clock and say:
"omfgfg productive day lost!".
Myself, I can't study for more than 10 minutes and home :?. The computer just keeps calling for me.

I actually fail at studying but win at getting good grades. For my GCSE exams so far, I have:

-Left revising until the night before
-Spent the whole of that night reading a revision guide provided by my school, and also recapping notes
-Worrying about how much of an idiot I am for leaving it so late to study

The best thing I can think of is buying specifically written revision guides (if they're available by you). Sometimes you can get guides which offer the right type of skills for you, but the only way you will truly learn is by doing the stuff yourself.

Never had the need to study per say, the UK exams were just too easy. But anytime I had to complete a lengthy essay or any other kind of long and arduous work I always needed to take myself away as much as possible. Used to live in a fairly large house with lot of empty rooms so I just used to lock myself in one of those with no distractions and write away. Complete opposite to Chief's method really, but I feel I need total seclusion to be able to fully concentrate.

I don't really have anything to add on to what everyone else said..take good notes and use those to help you study. I can't study to music. In fact, I can't study if people are in the room whispering. I need UTTER QUIET.

The only things I study for are exams, unless I don't know a specific piece of information or formula before a test and then I will look it up. I usually just read over my notes, maybe do some of the work out of the textbook if I don't completely understand it. I recent heard of a way to study called "spaced repetition", and there's a program called Anki that does it for you. I haven't tried it out yet so if you try it tell if if it's good :P

I don't. If I would, I could be among the smartest guys of the school. (But I think it's already the case xD /modesty)
I use my high level of logical sense and my instinct to pass (and literaly own everybody /modesty) exams.
Okay I had the highest score ever on the toughest psychology exam ever without even studying. I have the right to feel proud heh?

The only thing I would recommend would be to NOT multask.
Do not study while listening music. Yes it's cool, but you wont learn anything, because you'll be too busy listening to the lyrics and ****.

It's all a matter of memory. A time will come when you'll no longer need to study because you'll memorize everything. That's what I did from First to Sixth Grade. Never studied since.

I agree, I can't study with any kind of noise going on. I get distracted. ;)

I usually study the night before or early in the week if I know ahead of time for a couple hours. I'm actually taking Psychology right now because a friend who took it last semester told me that she learned techniques in the class to manipulate the brain into learning material without spending long hours studying and cramming. Something about using colors and some different methods, obviously if I knew them I wouldn't be taking the class, forces the brain into learning the material, so I thought that was pretty amazing and decided to learn how.

So you've gotten your study tips, and I suggest taking Psychology to learn even further how to manipulate your brain. Good luck. :)
