wiki leaks founder proscuted?

I also heard this:

WikiLeaks has contacted the US government with a list of the files they intend to release, and asked them is there were any in particular that shouldn't be made public, because they may endanger specific people of operations. The US government never replied. So either there's nothing of any importance in the files, and all the stuff about WikiLeaks "putting US military in danger" is bullsh*t, OR they'd rather sacrifice individuals or operations just so they have a better excuse to go after WikiLeaks.

and why shouldn't the documents be released? In NY Times vs. US, the Supreme Court ruled that the US could not stop the NY Times from publishing the controversial Pentagon Papers, which detailed the events and communication/plans of the Vietnam War WHILE IT WAS GOING ON. Wikileaks is doing nothing wrong by publishing these documents and they are no more a terrorist organization than the NY Times was.

The internet should NOT be regulated. The internet will soon be the world's source of information and therefore should not be regulated anymore than a newspaper/media company should. The statement that "Actions on the internet should be treated exactly as they would be treated in real life." made by Shane is idiotic to say the least. Credit card fraud on the internet is STILL credit card fraud. But applying the argument to censorship goes AGAINST your argument. If actions on the internet were censored like you want the internet, then by God we would have a Orwellian society on our hands.

Not to mention that in Reno vs. ACLU, the Supreme Court BANNED the censorship of the internet. And I don't give a **** if you live in Canada either. These are principles that protect the freedom of information around the WORLD. If I don't know what's happening around me, am I actually free? No. I am imprisoned in a cage of ignorance that I can't get out of because my only sources of information are censored and the organizations that seek to provide this information are pursued as terrorists.

Good Lord I fear for the future of the world where people actually SUPPORT censorship.

Yes, for the average person. I thought you were talking about him by himself. Usually the crazier cases with $1+ million bail are even more insane to pay off.

There are rumors circulating that he is being tortured, but it is known that he is being held in solitary confinement and that he is forbidden from seeing his family or friends.

So, I now have a new stance, well not really a stance but something to consider.

Think how corrupt American politics is. I don't think the urgency of the American government trying to control this situation has anything to do with covering up things in the middle east (like lies about deaths, or whatnot) I think it is a bigger picture. I think that they are trying to cover up something that we don't know about, possible 9/11 scandal for instance (I know a lot of people who believe America is behind the attacks). If there is something that is being covered up, even if it was ultimately for a bigger picture or cause, I am sure the American government is covering it up.

Personal, I hope Wikileaks, or the new name of them (OpenLeaks? I think) uncovers some Aliens files. Personally I fully believe intelligent life has visited Earth, even if it was thousands of years ago, and I know the government is hiding it.

That's the problem, it's not hilarious. Lives are at stake. Lives of human beings are at stake because of his decisions.

@Duke and anyone else who is concerned about the leaker Of course the internet isn't secure but if you were presented with information like this would you do the same, that is publish information rather than returning it to the source?

I happen to agree with Duke. You don't see other countries being this careless. Don't blame the middle man blame the source.
