Here's the article from Time: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2024062,00.html
It's about them picketing at a soldier's funeral with signs like "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "God hates the USA", and the guy's father suing them.
Also, why it's still legal: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2022220,00.html

Now, if I was that father, chances are I'd have a gun. And, if I was that father, I'd be using that gun. Free speech ******* when your crashing someone's funeral who DIED TO PROTECT THE **** COUNTRY YOU'RE PROTESTING IN. Those articles just disgust me.

Spokane (Washington), Cheney (Washington), and Coeur d'Alene (Idaho). There are places in each of those cities they will be visiting.

I've been to baptist churches before. but when i moved to aus, i stopped going to church altogether. Can they honestly call themselves a functioning church. A church congregation wouldnt do things like this. This sounds like a Extremist congregation, not a congregation. These people are bad news. I'd stay clear. Also, do they even have the right to go to a school and do this. PTA boards should have more say in things like this.

It's been registered as a hate group by multiple organizations, and one of the "related articles" in wikipedia is "homophobia". Part of the weirdness of this "church" (I'm not sure it's worthy of that title) is that it has badly criticized the two biggest baptist conventions in the USA. Also, so far as I'm aware, only the Catholic churches (both roman and eastern variations) excommunicate any more, and even then very rarely (again, so far as I'm aware).

A Kid asked Jesus, "How much do you love me?" and Jesus said. "This much." And spread his arms out on the cross and died. If you believe that he did this for you put this in your signature.

The whole reason we have the first amendment is to protect exactly this type of unpopular speech. We wouldn't need the first amendment if it only protected people who say things that everyone agrees with.

That said, the Westboro Baptist Church are a bunch of **** fundamentalist bigots, and you should definitely counter-protest. You don't even have to do anything but make a sign, preferably with something like "God hates **** fundamentalist bigots." written on it, and stand near them with it.

Spoiler for Nietszche Quote:

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols
