Well, since you said argument paper, here's what I can think of off the top of my head...

*For/Against European Exploration
*For/Against the Reformation
*Good/Bad the Invention of Gunpowder
*Good/Bad the Invention of Currency/Banking/Economies

Eh, I know it's not great, but take any of the topics you have heard so far and ask if it was good or bad, if you liked it or if you didn't. Then you can start formulating an argument as to why you think that way. I'm drawing a blank for topics since I enjoy US History much more than any other history, but all that history is at least 1600s forward to the very beginnings (not including exploration and discovery).
