Debate: Who should be allowed guns?

Everyone needs a .357 Magnum with one bullet. Men, Women and children alike. They'll need it when the zombie apocalypse is upon us.

In all seriousness though, I'm scared to death of someone breaking into my house with any kind of firearm. The current house I'm living in right now has a shotgun and a .22, which we have for both protection from intruders and for protection of the livestock. We have 5 acres of land and with that much land, we have to be careful about cyotes attacking the lifestock. If something were to attack the livestock, or us, and we didn't have a gun, we'd be helpless.

If you put a control on guns, somehow people will get some.

And I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up or not, but even if they did put a control on guns in the US, how are they going to get all of the guns that people already have? Sure, they can go search their house, or whatever, but what about the people who hide their guns in very good hiding spots? It's impossible for the government to completely get rid of every gun in the US. People will smuggle guns and sell them. They actually already do that in the ghetto, gangsters sell all sorts of guns (AK-47s, Glocks, 22.s, M9s, etc) to anyone. They'll even sell them to children. They'll keep feeding the firearms, even if there was a gun control policy.

Pretty much makes it pointless for us to sit here and talk about it while they're going all over the place through who knows where anyway

On a humorous more-on-topic note.. if you need to defend your house, just use a melee weapon!

I think that they should limit gun control to only the police, but so many firearms are already
owned illegally by the general public that it will be hard to get them all back.

I know it's not necessary to go around and repeat stuff that's been said in this thread before, but I'll list my viewpoints.

Gun ownership is a privilege that should only be given to those of a certain age, and no violent or thieving criminal record. If you're in a city, you shouldn't have need for any gun, but for 'self protection' a .22 caliber pistol is more than enough to defend yourself and if need be, kill someone who is violently threatening you. Fully automatic weaponry should only be allowed to qualified (aka have taken a class, and have a perfect (aka non existent) criminal record) individuals, and should ideally only be permitted to be used in rural conditions for target shooting purposes. No normal person needs or should have any want for an automatic weapon. They're not necessary for anything, and their only use is for gun show / shooting ranges.

It's too late to enact anything in the United States that would regulate anything for the normal person. Guns are easy to obtain legally, and unfortunately illegally isn't too difficult if you've got the money. Regulating guns more than they are now (which honestly isn't all that much) won't happen on a national level. The most you see is a statewide restriction, or a township restriction.

I'm not really for people carrying guns around everywhere just for the fact that having a gun (or any weapon, for that matter) doesn't mean you'll be safer. You might argue the point, and I'm sure to some people it would be a benefit in their eyes, but I doubt that many normal (non paranoid) people would be willing to bring a gun everywhere they go. It's not practical, and in practice it really isn't something that's done. I'm in one of the few states that has a conceal carry law, so it's legal for someone to have a license and carry a weapon. How many times have I seen someone with a handgun in my 14 years of living here with a concealed weapon? Zero. I've heard stories of people who carry once and a while, but it's not a common practice.

Isn't that kind of the point of having a concealed weapon? Other people aren't supposed to see it. You won't know someone is carrying it unless you were actually looking for it most likely.

I work at a warehouse for kroger, and once i was walking in kroger at night and some redneckish fellow had a magnum (dont know what type) chillin in a holster... little overkill for me

i personally use a knife for protection as i carry at least one on me at any time
