You know, it's taking an enormous amount of self restraint to keep myself from going on my huge anti-religion rant.
I'm sorry if this is slightly off-topic, but nothing really annoys me more than seeing atheists go on ten paragraph ***** when someone says that they are happy to believe in God and enjoy practising their religion. I do respect that atheists have the right to not believe in God or religion, but a lot of them seem to get a real hard-on when it comes to complaining about how religious people are selfish, ignorant, etc while they turn around and make themselves look like all of the negative things they accuse religious people of being. I'm glad that the atheists I know and respect are people that understand that all humans deserve
dignity,
compassion, and
equality.
That wasn't exactly aimed at you, so please don't get up in arms. I see this a lot on the internet and it really just contributes to negative stereotypes of atheists.
Atheists do tend to comment with vituperative remarks when discussing religion, but I'm proud to say I respect other peoples' views on the afterlife and generally don't make any offensive remarks about it. However, as far as my experiences in real life about religion go, atheists are looked down upon and criticized harshly. I mean, whenever peers of mine at school start talking about religion/church I tend to not engage in conversation because they'll naturally want to ask me - and I'm proud of my views so I'll tell them that I'm "agnostic", and for some reason they give me these disgusted looks; like I just killed a newborn baby or something.
Essentially what I'm trying to say is... I think atheists are so mean spirited on the internet because they can be. I think it's because they are the minority in the real world and are afraid to voice their opinion so they do it on the internet.
