What If Trading Stopped?

First of all, imagine being one of the first players of RuneScape (RSC or RS1, whichever you choose). You can't just go to a bank and say, "Buying Green Dragonhide Body" or go to the Grand Exchange and buy it. No, you'd have to go out into the Wilderness, kill three green dragons and then go all the way back to Al-Kharid to tan the three hides. Next, you'd need the Crafting level of 63, which is not easy to come by, to craft the body.

If RuneScape was devoid of all trading, even the Party Room, then would it make the game more or less enjoyable? Trading might destroy the competitiveness of the game - for example, are you really going to spend weeks of killing Bandos enemies in God Wars to get a Bandos chestplate, or would your time be better spent getting 14m to buy it? Sure, getting a Bandos chestplate after weeks of doing God Wars in pretty cool, but how does it distinguish you from other people who just bought it? In other words, is buying "cheating" yourself out of effort or just quick & easy, but sometimes expensive?

Would taking away trading destroy the very foundations of RuneScape?

I think it would spice the game up if trading was removed.
with all the high leveled players now it's too easy to get items now.
making rares... unrare.
I could probably adapt.

I would have quit a long, long time ago, because I am lazy for one, and two, there is just not enough hours in a day.

I'd get used to it but it'd be really really annoying to get rare armours. Removing trade would be the worst thing jagex could do other than remove talking to other players.

Would never happen. But if it did then it'd make a lot of things a whole hell of a lot more difficult. But also might motivate some people to not be so lazy and rely on other players for everything.

It would certainly be a different game but not one I think as many people would play. People tend to gravitate towards certain areas - such as combat or skilling - but both using their cash from these to level the skils they don't enjoy spending much time on. Forcing a skiller to do combat and vice versa would just lead to discontent players (somewhat like I am when I think about runecrafting). Personally I'd rather see 'aid' removed.

If we still had the GE, I'd be fine with it, but if you take out trading and the GE, I'd quit. Imagine how few people would have whips and other good training weapons/armor.

Yea I would quit since there wouldn't be any point without trading. That is just like saying we can't talk to other people.

It would spoil the game, I no i don't play at the moment but trading is the main theme of runescape and alot of people enjoy that part of the game

I think I'd have died of boredom long before I ever maxed on all stats if I had to collect all the materials for everything.

I honestly would not care too much. I barely trade unless I really need something. But I highly doubt that Jagex would make this happen because trading is one of the most important details in the game.

If trading was taken away, Runescape would probably lose quite a few players. Trading is such a cardinal key to the game that it seems somwhat unimaginable to me that it could ever be removed. Not only would the game be more difficult, there would be a lot less money floating around and a lot more self-sufficient players in the game. I don't think that's all bad, but trading is a very important and necessary part of the game. Just thinking about removing trading gives me the creeps. :shock:

I'd totally be all up for it if it happened. Everything would be just that more worthwhile to have once I get it. Don't you find you appreciate something the more it takes out of you to obtain it?
