So, lately, on a Ventrillo server, I've been getting a little flack from some of my friends about being 19, in college, and still playing Runescape. Frankly, from what I have heard, I believe Runescape was designed for adults and not kids (although I'm sure that general base for Runescape is young). I pointed this out, but still got guffawed at. I discovered a few days later that instead of playing Runescape, these same said friends enjoy Maple Story a lot more and think it is a better game. Now, I will admit I've never played Maple Story and live by the axiom "To each his own" for the most part. But I believe that this is a totally pathetic defense on my friends part and a totally unsubstantiated one. I think Maple Story is one of the dumbest and most pathetic RPGs, even more so than Runescape, and would even go beyond that to say that my friends are more pathetic than me (though they may be slightly younger and a little more immature). What is the B&B Community's take on this? I'm curious to know and am totally open to criticism and ridicule for being an idiot and not knowing anything I'm talking about. I usually don't listen anyway and probably won't take offense. So start posting what you think. It would be greatly appreciated. 8)

Used to play that game about two or three years back, I always end up in a flame war about Runescape in that game.

Apparently a 2D game with cute graphics is meant to be more mature than a medieval-themed game.

I've never played Maple Story myself, but how complex can the gameplay be in such a limited environment. What about the number of items, quests and monsters? What about the quality of the quests? Quests in most games involve talking to a couple of NPCs and killing X monsters or collecting Y items.

RuneScape is whatever you make it. It doesn't matter how old you are, you can make it enjoyable for yourself. I've been playing since I was about 10 (18 now).

Not to mention it is laughable that anyone thinks Maple Story is more 'mature' than RuneScape.

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

See...? Your worst than me. XD Jk. But I totally agree. Any game is really what you make of it. But I still think side by side, Runescape is much better than Maple Story.

Maple Story...*dies*
I hate that game. HATE!
Anyway, I think RS was designed for an older age group, at least 15+.

Mate, I have the same problem.

I'm 19, go to tafe (Tertiary And Further Education), and still play runescape. I probably won't stop playing until runescape is "not the it" anymore. I've been playing for a number of years (does that make me a RS veteran =P~). I have seen the game mature since the old RS classic. I think that there is no age limit on a game that you play. Although, one's self would be expected to give up the game at a certian age.

As for your friends, just tell them that you are part of a diverse online community.

As for Maple Story...........

Cheers, dafin0

A variety of people play both games. There's young people and there's old people in both RS and Maplestory. Just because you play a certain game doesn't mean you're childish or immature, it's just that you have a different taste/like. I've played Maplestory and RS and I think they're both decent games, but that alone stands as my opinion, not who I am.
