I'm curious to see the difference in the number of accidents caused by each. And they just did it just for a one lane roundabout. The ones in Europe are way bigger and you can get stuck in those things for a long time if you are on the inside.

You shouldn't get stuck in a roundabout, you have right-of-way to exit if you are in an inner lane. With proper signaling, people will leave room for you to exit.
There's only a few 2-lane roundabouts in my city but I like them. They definitely feel more efficient than having a 4-way stop if there is moderate traffic. With too much traffic, I think traffic lights are more efficient because you can go faster and big roundabouts take up so much space.

I'd never used one until they added then in town several years ago. Took some getting used to but now I love them. Made my morning commute much quicker.

A lot of the busy multi lane roundabouts in the UK these days also have several sets of traffic lights that you have to go through as you drive around the bigger ones. Hold ups can be long at peak times but at least each entrance onto them gets a chance to move onto the roundabout. But little shunts and bumps are an everyday occurence on some of the worst roundabouts in Newcastle.

Is knowledge of roundabouts (we call them traffic circles in Edmonton, too!) a testable requirement for Americans learning to drive? Especially the ones with multiple lanes.
