In this new class I'm taking called Computer Literacy I need Microsoft Word 2003. I need to make documents and send them to my teacher, but whenever I open up Microsoft Word 2003, it says this:

Image

I have no key for this program, and I was never given one. I didn't have an installation disk for it, either. It came installed on my PC. :|

I hit "Convert..." and I'm given THIS screen after half an hour of waiting:

So when I hit the first option, it shows every program in Microsoft Office and has a checkbox next to them, and says "Which of these programs would you like to install/uninstall?"

So I went and hit the second option, it asks me if I want to Repair it or Re-Install it. I hit Re-Install, and after a while, it showed this:

So, I go and do the Repair option, and it does the same thing. Same window and everything.

Third option just makes me un-install it, obviously.

--------

So what I'm asking is how do I get a certification code for Microsoft Word 2003? I tried to find a keygen for it, but the **** thing is so old that there isn't one that I could find. And when I find one, where the hell do I enter it in at? When I hit 'Configure' it didn't have any area where I could even put it in at.

Well, you could download the 2010 beta here.

With it, you can save with a compatibility format that works in all versions of office.

She has Microsoft Word 2003, she wants us to use it too, I'm pretty sure.

I'd go with nikeballa's suggestion. The 2010 Beta expires in October, which is a pretty fair deal. Your teacher can't expect you to still use a program that's outdated by (almost) two versions and is seven years old - you can't even legally acquire that anywhere! And if she for some reason does.. well she's an idiot, which means she's not going to know that you're using it anyway. :D I'd expect you're sufficiently proficient with Microsoft Word already for that not to matter.

I'd also go with nike's suggestion. It might take a bit of time to adapt yourself the new office from office 2003, specially because of the new menu layout, but it has the exact same options.

There's also another alternative to Microsoft office called OpenOffice. Its free and offers almost the exact same thing Microsoft office does. Its your choice though. I'd still go with office 2010.

Yeah I know about Open Office, but she needs the Microsoft Word files. I'm supposed to do my work, zip it, and send it as an attachment through an e-mail. Does Open Office make Microsoft Word files?

Ah. Well, I downloaded OpenOffice and Microsoft Office 2010 Beta.

I got OpenOffice to save as .doc files, but I'm just going to use Microsoft Word 2010.

Stick with Office 2010. I'll never go back to older versions of office (2007 is close enough, so discount that), and I don't know why you'd want to go to 2k3 when there are other options. Just save as .doc as default, and she shouldn't have any trouble viewing what you're sending her.

Also, for a computer literacy class, you'd think she'd be more open to newer and better options :S

And if all esle fails, Google Docs is also very good, can be exported to a word file, but you need the internet to use it. It's something my school is using very often for a lot of assignment, and I would highly recommend it.
