For Canadians, I found
this government website that has the top singles in Canada archived. For some reason, you have to enter a few months earlier than what date you actually want to appear.
Top single on my birthday was:
Don't Worry Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin. I think I prefer the top Canadian content single on that week instead:
Voodoo Thing by Colin James.
Christmas 1988 was
Look Away by Chicago. This time period seems to be missing from the website, but I then found
this section on wikipedia which is quite a bit easier to use than the government website. Can't find any other sites for listing top music that is considered Canadian content unfortunately.
