RuneScape can be great fun to play with others, whether you’re starting a clan, aiming for a skill milestone or taking on a boss. So, to help with this, you can now invite your friends to join you in RuneScape and we’ll offer them items and extra XP, with the possibility that you could earn an XP multiplier too!

All you need to do is Refer A Friend through our programme and, if your friend subscribes within two weeks of joining, you’ll receive a 10% XP boost for one week. You can receive up to five of these boosts in a year, so it is a great way for you to level up on those harder to attain skills.

Also, to help your friend when they start out, and get them closer to your own levels, they will receive a x2 XP multiplier to any skills they train in their first seven days of playing. So, this gives them the opportunity to rise up combat levels quickly as they fight against creatures of RuneScape, or reap the benefits when practising other skills. The x2 multiplier cannot be used to take a skill beyond level 30.

You may only refer someone using the Refer A Friend programme if they create a new account that has not played RuneScape previously.

You and your friend will be automatically added to each other’s friends list, and your friend will receive a special cracker which they’ll need to pull in order to receive a special starter pack of weapons, armour, cake and coins.

There are no limits on the skills that these multipliers can be used on. For full details of how the XP boosts work, please see here.

To start referring your friends now, please click here. For more information on the programme, click here.

Well..... Get ready for a **** ton of new accounts to be made!
Like honesty... People are not going to refer a friend... They are just going to make a new account.
The only thing this is going to do is create x5 The amount of accounts that they have already. *Cough*Trying to beat World of Warcraft in numbers of accounts.*Cough*

Not that referring a friend is a bad idea, but giving something out that bots can take advantage of more than the actual players is a bad idea. Loyalty points would of been a better choice or some other item. Also it means I can create another account and give it members so my main account has an advantage. I know this is limited to 5 times a year, but that adds up to 50% boost exp. I wont stop playing the game because of this, but I am unhappy about it.

I'm being skeptical here:
If this is some secret weapon for Jagex to try and compensate for the loss money before they get rid of all the bots (thinking positive that they are actually getting rid of them) then I think they played it wrong. They should of gotten rid of all the bots and then added the RAF program.

Uhm so if you find RuneScape by yourself, who cares about you, but if you have a friend to refer you, well among the items and help they'll give you to start off, we'll give them some boosts too. Oh and where was my 2x xp to Dungeoneering the first week of it, maybe getting 30 wouldn't have taken forever.

I've referred friends who have subscribed before, where is my 1.1x multiplier? That's really, really dumb that you can get it once for that let alone 5 times a year. So basically you can pay $25 to get 5 weeks of 1.1x XP per year, sounds like RWT.

(lmao idk why I said 0.1x multiplier yea everyone would like that)

Dear Jagex,

We have noticed that you have commited an offence on your account and therefore you have been temporarily banned for 7 days. Please have a look at our rules here to avoid such offences in the future.

I don't understand why this is appalling to so many people. What is it besides the point that new accounts can get a 2x boost on skills below 30? The boost for the referrer is only 1.1x which is tiny. I want to know why this is bad besides saying that it's bad.

Before I go any further and say why I like it I just want to debunk the whole "it helps bots" argument. Let's take a look at Woodcutting:
- Willow (level 30): Getting level 30 requires a mere 13,363 experience. Without the boost (on your new account) you would only be able to get level 23, experience required doubles roughly every 7 levels. The person still needs to do the majority of the work to get to 30.
- Ivy (level 68): Boost is only usable below level 30. Ivy bots would not be effected by this.

Now in relation to the more general 1.1x for a week, it's relatively even. Bots can use it, people can use it. It's no different than bots using the same skilling areas as you. Not all bots will go through the hassle of making an extra account.

There's nothing to stop anyone from making an account, subscribing for a month and receiving the 1.1x temporary boost. If you have a problem with others doing it, do it yourself. Jagex is a company and they need to drive people to the game in one way or another. This is also a nice way to raise money, I commend them for doing it. To all of those who oppose this because it seems like Jagex's form of RWT would you rather they actually didn't tip-toe around the issue and open up a store with XP boost tokens, special buff items, and special costumes instead? Pick your poison.

If you love RuneScape as a game you will find someone to refer. If you can't find anyone to refer but you still love the game you will have no problem putting the extra $5 into the game to get a tiny boost. This is the future of online gaming. People don't complain that there's a Team Fortress 2 store where you can buy hats and weapons (weapons can be thought of as the boost since they offer more appealing stats). Millions download and pay extensively for downloadable content on Xbox Live. How is this different than the previous two?

Also, for those of you saying you don't support this as American you must be champions of universal health care. This is the same thing as people with the ability to pay more getting access to better health facilities than a general hospital. If you don't like the idea of universal health care why are you against this? If I have the extra money I should be able to pay to get the extra care (xp boost in RS).

All in all I have no issues with micro-transactions or DLC. It's just another way for the company to make money. People who truly do enjoy what Jagex/insert company here is doing they will pay.

Actually I have always been in favor for universal health care.

That's really odd. Cause antoher game has a free trial thing like this..cna't remember the name...wurd?..wor..wur..world of..werrkraft? war..warcra...WORLD OF WARCRAFT!

Yeah that's the one. Except they give you free 30 days for recruiting and not a ******* unfair advantage over everyone else. Still jagex can't give away game time they need to rake in the money so they can continue to push out crap updates.

edit: Also double exp was and is and always has been a retarded idea to bring into a game like this. I await the day i need to sign up to facebook to get items/exp from RS. That's the latest trend and one Jagex will no doubt try to copy..poorly but copy they will.

We didn't really have much of an issue with this on the show. His feelings were that it was bound to come since pretty much other MMO has done it. So no real opposition, sorry to disappoint :P.

So if you have extra money irl you should be able to buy rs gp and not get banned? Someone sees an opportunity to make money by filling a void where there is no Jagex-sponsored way - is that smart or criminal? Same thing for producing and selling prohibited things in real life there is $$ to be made.
When you say, no you can not rwt because we feel your status in real life should not reflect your status in our game, you can't turn around and be like uhm well if we can get lots more money from it we've changed our minds.

Outright selling in game advantage givers for real money? It'd be the same thing. Anyways, micro transactions for things in RS is pretty dumb because #1 you pay membership already #2 it's a game where you are supposed to actually play to get your items not bot or buy them #3 if they were worth buying then it would be stuff giving you an advantage over players who actually want to play the game as dedicated players. Lol I look in NHL 11 and it's like ok for this boost for your pro YOU CAN PLAY THE GAME AND DO THIS THIS AND THIS FOR THIS BOOST..... OR YOU COULD JUST PAY $1.99. Well, that's not much fun now is it?

I haven't played in recent years and I sometimes I am like hmm maybe I'll get seriously back into it as I used to be but then I go to the homepage and right there on the front page it's telling me to buy a marked up membership card from a store that's not even in my country (lol jk I can't tell if eb games and gamestop are the same thing) for some stupid sword, and then it tells me to buy a marked up card for a chance to go to runefest, and then it shows me the refer a friend thing and I'm like oh wait, 3 of the slides are for money, 1 is for a community event, and 1 is for game content, what is even the point in playing now. I forgot how now it's just about commercialization and not actually about the game.
Whatever, I don't like it, but 1/8 will embrace it. I hope that direction is worth it for Jagex. I don't really care, though, but it probably will be. Wont be RuneScape, though, that's for sure.
