Yesterday (March 7th) the crew of Space Shuttle Discovery and the current crew of the ISS received a Star Trek themed wakeup call. The song used was the original Star Trek theme song. The song was voted on by the public and therefore chosen.

This mission also marks the last of Discovery's flights. In accordance with this the song received a modified voiceover. The voiceover was recorded by William Shatner himself.

You can have a listen for yourself here (1.1MB MP3).

Star Trek always has and always will have some kind of influence on our space programs :).

I was pretty certain this was going to be satire based on the title, but then I loaded the page and realised it was written by Shane.

Either way, this is sickening. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one! A great choice of words by our dear leader. :D

/offtopic

What has really shaped science and space travel is our own curiosity of the unknown. That very same curiosity has created all the science fiction shows, movies, games, etc. that we all know and love today. I think it's hard to attribute how much of an effect one intangible has had on another intangible.
