I think its slightly more fair for high schools to have 90% required while IB only needs 80%, if that is true. We need to do CAS commitments (either 150 hours or 11 different commitments covering 8 learning outcomes), Extended Essay, ToK Essay, ToK Presentation. ALL on top of the requirements for a compulsory range of subjects which have many internal assessments, some subjects having more than others, while within the nearly 2 years the course lasts for.

Can't really afford to skip anything unless you like spending your weekends catching up or don't mind low grades...

A levels and most other education systems is just the subjects you do. That's it...

Fun fact: the average score of 30 points in IB is the equivalent to 3.5 A grades in A levels which is awesome.

really not that unfair if you think about it, missing ~20 days of school is a lot

Blaming the parents because they can't devote the time to camp outside the school gate 9-3 every week day just to make sure there kid doesn't jump the fence is unfair.

If schools here did more than teach you how to pass an exam and gave you a bit more responsibility perhaps those kids might be more interested in sticking around.

I have cut projects really close to another class starting before, but I have never missed class to work on them. That is not to say that I skipped class because of the loss of sleep I experienced from the project. I have done that many of times.

Some of my nerdy friends do that but I don't understand why. Just tell the teacher where you are at and why you are not done and ask for an extension :S And with the Ottawa school board's rules, they can't say NOO YOU FAIL anyways since due dates are not allowed by the school board. It is also illegal for students to go on boats on school trips by the boards rules. **** THE SCHOOL BOARD **** US OUT OF THE CANAL TOUR OF AMSTERDAM.

In high school, I would skip classes all the time in order to finish projects that I had put off until the last minute. The classes were easy enough to make up. In college, however, it is much harder to make up a missed class, and I generally just do my homework on time so I don't have to miss any class.

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols
