If you were able to see whether or not a child had, or was to have, a mental or physical disablilty such as autism, albinism or indeed, diabetes, before they were born, would you or would you not terminate that pregnancy in order to save the child the suffering throughout it's life?

Answer honestly, and explain why you chose. :)

I would. I think it'd be awfully cruel to put a child through that, especially if there was to be inevitable operations and the like. I'm not pro-abortion but I don't think it should be banned either. If it's terminated before it starts growing into a near fullsize baby then it's fine in my eyes.

No, people can live mostly normal lives with any of those diseases.

I seriously dont have the heart to hurt someone anymore. Also I cant stand see someone suffering, espiecally when it's my fault.

If it was something like diabete or a curable diesease, I'd let the baby born and do everything to cure or help him/her. And when I say everything, it's EVERYTHING. Even if it would involve that I need to steal $500,000 to pay the medcine. There is no price I wont pay to save the life of someone I care about. But I would not like to see someone with diabete, That must sucks big time.

If it was autism or mental problems (which is incurable), I dont think I would be able to see him/her living a whole life with their handicap, I dont want him/her to suffer. Plus I wouldnt like to see people making fun or judging them because they have a diesease.

That would be tough for me, But I wont decide something like this by myself, I'd discuss about it with the woman that I made pregnant.

I still believe that every human deserves to live.
Good question, Anubis

Yes,
It's very shallow to say this but, I wouldn't terminate it to stop the suffering I'd terminate it so i wouldn't have to live with it.

My sister has autism, she can hardly speak in a language that people can understand. It's really sad to see people talk to her and then see them say "What did she just say...?"

It really bothers her when someone like that talks to her too, they try to help her figure out what she said but she takes it as them making fun of her or that she can't be understood. It in return makes her frustrated and makes her cry and stuff. She's 5.

I don't want a kid to suffer, so, yeah. I would terminate the kid, but only because I don't want to see my kid have to go through what my sister has to go through. My sister is an angel, and she doesn't deserve autism.

At the current point in my life I think if i got any girl nocked up I'd prefer it was terminated before it begun. Course I wouldn't let that happen so it's not going to be an issue.

As for any problems. No, if and when i have a child it'll ideally be when I'm ready to be a father and ready to take on the responsibilities of being one..no matter what that might be. If your man enough to do the deed you'd better be man enough to follow through.

No reason to think they couldn't lead a happy life.

For me, it would be entirely dependant on the illness.

For example, if the child would live a life of constant pain, and never-ending treatment and therapy for the illness, whatever it may be. Then yes, I personally believe that no life at all, is better than a life that will not be enjoyed to its fullest extend. However, if my partner did not want the child to be terminated, I would stick with her and help in any way possible. In a way, my viewpoint would be the same as what Shreder said if the choice was entirely down to me... but I would be willing to put aside what I personally wanted for my partner. (My current girlfriend for example, I would literally put myself through anything to make her happy :) )

I would.

I would not want a child with severe problems.

Well, you see I'm catholic. Yes I would. My aunt did it, and like MQ said most Kids live through their lives like that.

Thinking about it, right now in my life, if I had authism thrust upon me, or a similar condition, maybe brain damage or something along those lines. I would not want to live. That may just be me, I seem to have a nack of putting an extremely low price on life, but I don't know. I wouldn't want to live on with a condition like that.

I wouldn't abort it. A child is a child no matter how different they are. There have been many people with autism and other disorders that have done great things in their lifetimes. I would look upon it has a challenge to parent a child of special needs. No child deserves to be killed just becuase it is going to disabled when it grows up.

it's one of those things that you'd say you'd do, but if it actually happens to you, you know you won't do it.

Actually this is true.

This is the kind of things that are easy to say 'pffft yea of course' and when it really happens to you're most likely to say 'Hmmm I cant do that...'

In this kind of question, Saying is easier than Doing.
