Do do do. So it's finally come down far enough in price for me to buy it without feeling ripped off if i hated it.
And as i was a bit of a critic of it I'm just writing my opinions down here which is undoubtable going to turn into an oblivion *****.
Short and sweeeet: I like it.
I think I'm around the 5 hour mark, not all that far but in enough to see what it's about and decide if i like it or not. Tutorial bored me but i suppose it beat obliv..uhm other games. Like the art style but not all over megaton looks like **** and I know it's supposed to look like crap what i mean is the entire design is ****, i really don't like that place. And i still find it hard to swallow, no matter how ******* crazy you are that you'd form a religion around a bomb and actually get people to listen. VATs is a god send.
for those that where like me and hated oblivion and wasn't sure on Fallout 3 allow me to put your mind at ease;
It is basically oblivion without the *******.
-I start carrying to much stuff? Naturally with heavy luggage i slow down, I don't get glued to the **** floor and unable to move.
-Vampires are in the game but thus far have not **** turned me into one and annoyed the HELL out of me.
-Does not take a 50 hits to kill a seemingly harmless animal that would normally die to one sword blow. Nor do you get ambushed by an idiotic amount of enemys this time, actually i did get jumped by a raider, two dogs and a giant crab thing once but i managed to kill them all because they die in a reasonable amount of time.
- I can actually steal ****. Seriously it didn't matter where i was in oblivion, if i slept in a bed with no one around, or i stole a bloody wooden SPOON from a room with no one in it you can BET your money I'd be chased out of bloody town. Not the case, I've happily robbed every poor ******** in the wasteland of there stuff and I've not been caught yet.
I think what i like the most is the karma system. In oblivion i start off in PRISON, I've no idea how long I've been there but before i know it I'm happily helping out the king. If he'd shut me away in a prison the last thing I'd do is help. But no, without a choice off i go helping his son (was it?) become the new king to save the world. A world i didn't care about. Full of people demanding my help and out of the goodness of my soul i happily help.
There's no choice, I want to kill the kings son and become king. In fallout if i want weapons or ammo, i go into the wasteland and kill someone for it. No having to sit through an hour of hacking away at a stupid monster/bandit. Reminds me a lot of mad max actually. And i like the feeling of it being dog eat dog and every man for himself.
A new oblivion should be out this year i think, add in the VAT system I don't care if it doesn't fit with the world, just do it. Being able to pick what part of the body i want to swing my sword at and actually having it be effective will massively help the bore factor. Keep the karma system, lose the vampires, let me be king, don't screw up the theiving.
I tried to stop it being an oblivion rant but oh well.

IN SHORT: Fallout good. Oblivion bad.
