Xbox won't connect.. sometimes...

Went over a friends house and took my 360 with me, I came back and hooked it up. And it won't connect. This does this when I move or something and it really bugs me. When i do a connection test it says it's wired but it can not locate an IP adress.

I don't have a router so I switch back and forth on my modem. I unplug my modem and replug it in with my 360 connected. 99% of the time it usually works but when this happens I usually have to wait a few hours for it to start working again and it slightly bugs me.

Any help with this issue would be greatly aoorciated. Thanks!

Mabey troubleshoot this on the XBox site, but my thought its that it's your modem, if you unpluggng and replugging it, that could be the problem.

i used to have the EXACT same problem. What I did to fix it was plug in the xbox and turn it on. Then unplug the power cord from the router and re plug it in (essentially restart the modem). Then do the same with the router if you have one.

Then try connecting to live. Its something with "connecting a new device to the modem and router".

Same thing always happens to me with my wireless router. Sometimes it will randomly disconnect or start lagging. I go check on my other computers and the internet is fine. Just by unplugging my router it usually gets fixed, but it's a pain in the ***. But the problems always change for me. Sometimes it says my IP address is wrong, sometimes it's a problem with the DNS. I seriously don't think the diagnostic tool even works, because I know my IP address is right on the system, it's just the **** Xbox being screwy.

I have the same problem when i switch on x; then switch it off and back on, it cannot reconnect
I'm having a shared connection, so what I do is just disable the firewall, let the system do a connection check, then connect to xbla and switch back the firewall.
