I could swear i posted a response to this before, but anyways; You can do it, and I've done it, as a part of my opamp circuit testing. Speaker and microphone have the same mechanics, a coil moving in a magnetic field to generate current. You just have to amplify your power output to hear anything. Some cheap walkie-talkies use their speaker as a microphone.
