What the hell? FOURTEEN?

14 years old are unwise and unindependent. And you let those people drive a car?

The limit is 18 in Finland, and in my opinion it should be no less. Underage people just can't take responsibility when they go hitting cars because they're too young to drive.

Ive sent off for me provisional license but it hasn't come yet. A month and 8 days till I can start using it in a car! I agree 14 is a tad young, though you say about the farming over here in england theres a tractor license you can get at 16.

I would agree 14 is way toooo young! I have real drivers license, but I don't use the car too often Public transport FTW lol, and if you want to go to school with your car pay parking lot fees which is quite costly. Hell my day has been driving since he was 12, but that was in 70's

Where I live you have to be 15 to get your permit and 16 to get your license and you can drive by yourself. I'm 15 and I got my license on my birthday w/o studying at all. LOL.

I've had a permit for a while, and I'm not that bad at driving, except that I go so slow sometimes.

All I know is that I will be getting my license sometime this year, because my permit expires 12/28/2008.

Being independent and "wise" seem like pretty good signs of maturity to me.

He's right though, at 14 you're just a kid. You're not even legally allowed to see most films.

He is right at a certain point. 14 is still fairly young, But someone who is 14 can be more mature than someone who is 18+, Depending who do you pick.

If you take a 14 year old who follow every single rules correctly
and a 18 year gangsta wannabe and who wants to show-off to everyone his skillz by driving over 150/mph. I think the 14 year old win there

But yes, A certain age is ok. At 16, I think you are enough mature by taking this responsability.

Got my provisional liscense 9 months ago near my 16th birthday ... when there was snow and ice on the roads here and there and everywhere. Without 4WD in the smallish car I'm using from my parents, it can be scary sometimes.

Other than that, driving goes pretty well ... as long as I'm not distracted to the point of doing something stupid. At least I'm not on my cell phone like half the people I see driving  (girls in particular, but that could just be a given) I find it hard to look down and try texting without swerving off into oblivion, but some people have that talent I guess. Wouldn't be too hard to talk and drive at the same time, but concentrating on the conversation could distract someone well enough :| not to sound like an annoying parent .. but I can't wait for the day I get rear ended at 60mph with a cell phone being the main reason.

Almost always drive my best friend across the street and myself to school in the morning ... along with driving back, and taking little brother to his friend's house. Have yet to start gong to a job ... or going places to blow off the money I earn from that job :P

On average 18 year olds will be more mature than 14 year olds. Yes yes, there will be some 14 year olds who are mature, and some 18 year olds who still act like kids. Age isn't a good indicator of maturity and it's not a good way to judge somebody. But by and large, 18 year olds will be more mature.

Although on the subject of car driving I don't see why a younger age is necessarily wrong. I think introducing young people to cars as soon as possible and teaching them as early as possible is good. The more driving experience people have invariably the safer they will be on the roads.

Its illegal to use a phone while driving over here now, but I did once try to text someone while riding my bike. It was.... Interesting!

I suppose also in america there mostly automatics arn't they? Practicaly everyone in england uses manuals so I guess that makes things a tad harder.
