Very cool video.

Iron sights on the AK need to be improved upon...

Wow. 3:34 to 3:46.
That AK is freakin powerfull. I didn't think either of the guns would have penetrated the wood blocks. Nice find :)

M16 has auto?! Tom Clancy always had me thinking it was 3-round burst. #-o Maybe a difference between A2 and A3? No idea ..

From what I've heard, the AK is meant to be produced quickly, and to simply put rounds downrange. I'm not suprised with the power, but I'm assuming the AK-47 was using 7.62mm and the M16 using 5.56mm. They didn't specify the exact caliber though :?

Also heard from a friend that the AK-47 could fire after it was burried in sand and held under water, and the M16 couldn't. There are a lot of variables there though :|

You don't have to use ironsights if you've got a scope of course :P

Yeah. The original M16 was fully automatic, then in A2 it only had single and burst.

As for the video, ****, that AK is powerful.

well AK was designed for reliability where you can take a kid and put the rifle in his arms and he'll know how to shoot. M16 you have to teach the person how to keep it clean, maintained, etc etc. it's basically quantity vs quality.

Yeah, soldiers need to learn that cleaning your weapon is a priority. I watched another video about the M4 or M16(forget which one) and when it was first introduced people thought it was **** because it jammed all the time. It turned out that they weren't cleaning it good enough.

AK 47's power is incredible, going right through the wood is amazing. I dunno though, the M16 could in fact be more lethal. When a round penetrates someone, the bullet explodes, causing shrapnel to spread throughout the wound, which is impossible to get it all out.

actually what happened was that the people in the administration ( i believe it was Kennedy administration) thought about it in terms of math and statistics, so if you shoot 1500 rounds you are suppose to kill 25 people. and when the army wanted to make modifications to the rifle they said "it doesn't need a chrome barrel, if it needed one stoner would have added it in when he built it"

here's the video i think you're talking about, more or less

m16

AK-47

The type of bullet has nothing to do with what type of caliber round it is. If you use hollow point bullets all of the time, they should mushroom when they impact something, basically shredding whatever it hits (thus great for hunting ;)). If you use a solid tipped bullet with the same setup, the same bullet should go through the target and potentially exit, all without causing *too* much damage. This being said, the gun is only as good as the shooter. If you're a crap shot with a good gun, I wouldn't be running around trying to kill people in areas of the world where they've been living in a war since they were born, even if they do have less-sophisticated rifles.

I've yet to shoot an AK, gotta ask Dad later I suppose. The M16 variant I shot was the civillian legal version, of course, so I should say that the AR-15 was a good weapon. Ripped through some smaller trees without problem, and kept a pretty tight group on the target.

Returning back from Ukraine, I've had an experience with Ak-74, shoulder wide, pull the barrel down and feel your left palm being heated. If you know how to shoot, hell, a PPSh can be more deadly than a P90.
If I was in a short skirmish, I must admit i'd choose M16 for accuracy, being hit is almost equal being killed so accurace is good. Medium-close rangean AK could do wonders, it pierces older bulletproof vests. But again, any decent rifle in a hands of a specialist, is more than lethal.
